I know the Alienware m17xr3 comes with AlienRespawn.. I even upgraded it to Premium.. However, AlienRespawn does not work for me in that it hangs at 72% eternally every time and runs my PC hot with fans going at max.. and never finishes the backup.. So I'm not sure whats happening there..
Is there other noteworthy complete backup solutions anyone recommends? I have Windows 7 Home edition, so I don't have the native Windows backup that Pro has.

I rarely bother with back up tools but I did use one recently after reading reviews etc and looking on cnet it's called "EaseUS Todo Backup" I had zero issues with anything I did with it including transferring windows/program installs onto a new HDD and I originally picked it based on reviews so other people seem to like it as well. There are several other well reviewed programs on cnet etc as well if you have problems with it.

If you're willing to deal with the insane CPU usage, I'd recommend Duplicati - it does a full backup followed by incremental backups on whatever schedule you want, encrypting everything with AES 256 before uploading. (especially relevant in light of PRISM)
It uses whatever cloud service you feel like, from Amazon S3 to Dropbox, Rackspace to Google Drive, or even to a USB drive if you want, which is a plus.
I've been using it for about 8 months and recently used it to restore my files after a reinstall, which went very smoothly. My only issue is that backing up 400-500 GB of data with it takes way longer than my internet would allow, due to being diffed and then encrypted - but again with PRISM being revealed, I'll stick with encryption. -

I use a combination of Oops!Backup (essentially Time Machine for Windows) and Paragon Backup (to image the c:\ drive). I use them on a Dell Precision M6600 running Windows 8. It's been a smooth, hassle-free experience so far.

Try DTC
It does the scheduled backup on a storage drive, a network drive or a cloud and it also has a lot more features (scheduled maintenance, virus removal, updates).
