Well now that i know the 2 techs in my area on a first name basis lol im sure i could do all the work myself but at the end of the day if they mess something up it falls back on them and that just means more hours on the phone and more service calls , im not sure why i am trying to make this sound like a good thing because its not ....

My parts will arrive tomorrow and hopefully everything will be fine and if not ill be back on the horn asking for a replacement ...

Dell service is the best so i dont ever complain since we could all be left with machines we have to mail in and wait weeks for parts and repairs and then shipping back and forth etc etc... It can always be ALOT worse ..

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/514037-m17x-r2-new-screen-available.html

Okay I have taken a shot of both my R1 and R2 monitor specs.

R1 monitor specs obviously on the Left lol. 2008 OMG FAIL lol ehahahahaah. :D

Current Monitor options available on the Australian Dell website for the M17x R2.

    Hey there chiefs,

Is the mouse stuck thing while you are using the touch pad or the external mouse. If touchpad try updating your system bios to A09.

If it is the external mouse try uninstalling the mouse or drivers and then reinstalling them. Software and mouse detection in device manager. Also double check your mouse laser or what ever it is using underneath. I usually give it a nice clean once in a while as the laser will pick up dust particles which can hinder the smooth movement of the mouse pointer. I usually just get a vacumm and suck the dirt out or wipe it down with a dam cloth.

Also check the surface you are using the mouse on. Give it a clean or try a different surface or mouse pad.

Good regular clean maintenance is key to successfully running a tip top mother ship LOL.

If still having mouse trouble then try reinstalling your GPU drivers.

    Cheers. :)

Thanks reborn2003, sems like this is gone, i did format the machine cause i dont like Dell configuration, and seems like the problem was because at the begining the machine had no internet, so, when i plug the mouse this start to work with the windows native drivers, once i had installed the wlan and got internet i plug the mouse again and the winupdate did the rest, i did install the mouse drivers also, which are not more like than a softeware to apply macros and functions, everything sems to be fine now. Greetings !

i've had it with those outsourced indian "tech support". two days ago i called them and reported dead pixel problem with my RGB LCD. they never responded so i called them up. after 15min on phone, they say they will replace the LCD module. while i was talking with tech support, i specifically asked him TWICE, to make sure that the LCD he send me is RGB. he said, "yes yes, you will exactly what you have on your system" (in the most ridiculous accent btw). fine, perhaps i worry too much, so i let them do their job. today on site tech turned up, and to my SHOCKING surprise, it's a CCFL UXGA LCD! those tech support are really really shockingly stxpxd! called them up, was put on hold for 15 minutes and came back apologising to me saying it's their mistake and they will replace the LCD again. being cautious, i asked him at least 5 times now if he had the right part, and i even took the liberty of sending him the correct part number and wrong part number to him. what a complete waste of time! absolute 0/0 for those outsourced so called "tech support". dell tried to save money hiring incompetant people but end up wasting more money cleaning after their mistakes. dont get me wrong, dell's after sales service business model is absolutely amazing, on-site next day, complete cover etc are just brilliant, it's just the people working to support that are causing havock!

What is the best Screen for the Alienware M17x R2 out right now? and its part number. I saw mention of a rgb antiglare and a rgb truelife, which is better. Any help would be Appreciated. Thanks. :)

I see mention of both K1NFP and J2CY8, which is better, and why, and is one antiglare and the other true life?

I could have swore that someone posted a link to one on these forums the other day from a particular website (don’t know the name of it off hand). I found the site this morning looking through my cache but not the actual RGB display, just the CCFL’s. I remember it being in the in the 100-200 range. I think someone posted it in response to a question about upgrading or exchanging for an RGB display.

I have seen both. They are both AG and about the same. It's the plexy glass cover that makes M17x glossy.

Thanks for the reply, so both reflect the same? So besides that then, is it just one is brighter or one is able to produce colors better? Should I just try for the newer one, which i believe is the J2CY8, or it doesn't matter at all, they are the same thing? thanks.

They both should be exactly the same screen. Just the manufacturing dates are different. One will be Jan 2009 and the other Jan 2010.

Do you know if we can hook up just the screen? I am able to find led backlit screens available for the M6400, but they do not have come with an inverter (its just the WUXGA (1920x1200) with led backlight, and obviously no bezels, cables, hinges etc.) for $249.99. Is this needed or can we plug and play off our existing set up?

you should be able to replace the screen itself (probably even the same inverter) but then you have to remove the E2E plastic and relaminate it to the new screen

Odds of doing that without catching some dust or something in a non clean room.....zero

Ive also found an M6400 17" RGB LCD Cover / Lid & Hinges Complete w/ Antenna & Cables LCD Cable & WebCam Cable for $54 (minus the screen), I just wasnt sure if I should snag this too for the parts.

Scook, do you know if the M6400 screen will fit in my m17x screen housing or are people retrofitting the 6400 housing??

Any 17" 16:10 is going to fit the same as any other one pretty much. No modification should be needed, just the actual swapping and installing of the parts.

Not sure at all abou this.... something to do with the connector type (the one between the motherboard and the LCD panel) which is different from one LCD panel to another out there...

so i hope that if we stay with Dell M6400 or M6500 it is still ok...

Well you can buy the CCFL WUXGA screen relatively cheap compared to the RGBLED. That would come as a drop in replacement and need to modifying or extra work

    Ok!

Let us know how it fares...

You have a 1440*900 or 1920*1200 right now?
When you dismantle the actual one, please give us the part numbers on it.
