why are you considering the samsung 4gb of space for more expensive amount and slower read/write and lower iops. NO COMPARISON

m17x has SSD issues so keep that in mind...you will not get any advertised speeds unless alienware and intel do something...you can do tweaks to help but nothing to fix it 100%. Still light years faster than a HDD but stick with intel or OCZ aftermarket

Just read another threat not recommending 2x SSD in RAID 0 for long term as it starts to slow down etc.... So I may consider 2x Seagate Momentus XT in RAID 0 as I have been impressed with just a single Momentus XT so far... Has anyone tried this yet?

i had a momentus xt in m11x and was an awesome upgrade since i had only 1 drive.

if you are doing SSD and HDD then stick with a regular 5400rpm or 7200rpm no need for hybrid. For ssd you can do raid if you would like you can see the other post it will take some maintenance work but many use SSD in raid in desktop setups using idle GC.

I have a SSD and HDD setup in the m15x and love it no complaints and in all honesty what i will end up doing to the m17x.

Yeah thanks man looks like 1 SSD for OS 1 Standard disk for storage/programs is the best route.

This site has a newegg coupon for an OCZ SSD.

    Newegg Coupon

I strongly recommend the OCZ SSD especially the Vertex 2. It's one of the best and you can search the site here for some reviews, benchmark and all. I believe Joker and The Moo have or had a Vertex and love it.

Yep, I strongly recommend a Vertex 2 drive as your main drive where you have windows and your programs and a normal HDD for storage.

Now if you have access to unlimited funds, you might want to consider a Vertex 2 240GB for your main drive and a Vertex 2 480GB for your second drive though that will run you about $2000.00 for both... :)

Another vote for the Vertex 2 - I love mine. I also had an m11x with a Momentus XT in it, so that is now my storage drive in my m17x.

jdbaker got your system yet? Any sf-1200 based drives(vert. 2, owc mercury, gkill pp, & etc) will be good and so are Intel's.
