Trying to watch 720p movies and the quality just seems meh, im not sure if its just my codecs or... maybe its a bad rip. Any suggestions?

I am using 1900x1200 but even if i switch to 1280xwhatever it still looks meh.

Watching ripped movies.. well, you r at the mercy of the ripper. I find that a better quality rip (read huge file) is better than a lower resolution rip. But if you know what to expect based on the file size, then i guess you really cant complain.

I find the standard matrovska codec pack works just fine. I use the GOM player, but that's just personal preference.

Try something like the VLC media player. It's free, and will play pretty much anything you want to throw at it.

I use K-lite codec pack (the standard edition) and for the movies that either don't show the right subtitles or don't display well, as suggested earlier, I use VLC.

doesnt the WMP on windows 7 come with most of the codecs, i find it to play any of my videos with no problems. Then again, VLC media player is very popular cos it does play almost everything.

I don't recommend any codec pack fullstop - they are all "hacks" into the system, some illegal as they break EULAs, and usually cause all manner of instabilities. My recommendation is also VLC, or XBMC in an HTPC set up, as it doesn't install any system codecs and plays 99% of everything I've ever thrown at it - what it couldn't play wasn't worth the hassle of getting a codec pack for.

    I use shark007 codecs.

Lots of advanced functions which will work in media player plus media player x64.
