    Hello all

Just got an replacement alienware 17 instead of my 2yr old R4.
Wondering what driver updating program you're using?
I figured dell drivers are a bit outdated when downloading em from their site.?

Also should I stick with dell 880m driver? I heard alot of trouble with that card.. When I installed the driver last night it said for 870 and 875m not 880 but I guess its the same..

The OS is win 8.1 and I noticed when starting her up that the screen will flicker and go black for like 0.5sec also the light in the keyboard will go out for the same amount of time, and light up again. Every thing is fine, but is this normal behavier for this machine?

Driver updating program? Just download them from Dell's website and NVIDIA's website as you should. Programs are unnecessary.

If you must have one, and also need an anti-viral program, you can use Avast. It also has a portion that is dedicated to updating drivers and programs.

As J.Dre pointed out, there's no need for such type of softwares. It's better to do it manually yourself.

Updating drivers? this is a very wrong thing that a lot of people feel they need to update drivers. Drivers are not like your normal programs which need to be updated to stay secured and have the most recent features. Throughout the years, I find that updating drivers:

    1) provides 0 performance benefit with the exception of the VGA drivers

    2) will only cause you trouble that is not immediately apparent such as BSOD or random crashes.

I have tried updating my IRST drivers, Intel chipset software, you name it, only got worse performance, heck, for me using the DELL drivers even for my graphics card gave me better performance than the latest and greatest from nVIDIA when I had my 770 GTX SLI

Stick to the drivers listed under your service tag and stop messing with something that works ;)

Now, don't use this, but if you want to update a friend's or family member's drivers for any specific reason if they were facing trouble, then My-Config is the best and FREE driver updater. It searches for relevant drivers unlike other driver updaters which I've tried before that found drivers not even relevant to my system. Furthermore, it provides you with the download links directly from the manufacturers

AGAIN, don't use it, this is just to answer your question and it's the best with not a single ad or bloatware

    There are only 2 ways
1 discharges manually from the Dell site
2 you can use driver genius to analysis and with the results serch on Google the download link

Use stock drivers unless you have issues for all but the graphics drivers which you can get from nvidia (or laptopvideo2go.com with a modified inf if the gpu is not added yet).
