I got a M17x R3 was wondering what's the best for long usage and gaming....

Using one at the moment does the job but maybe one better what I got...

    Hi there,

I got my R3 and a notepal (Cooler master) U3, that works great.
You can select exactly where to put your fans on the grid.
Around 3-4C ° coller than without using anything.

Ditto on the Cooler Master U3. I modified mine to use bigger fans (12v 80mm x 80mm case fans) instead of the stock 5v USB powered fans. They're a wee bit noisier, but the heatsinks get great airflow now.

Is the cooler comfortable on the lap/knees or just general usage other than the table like in bed?

If you feel the laptop is running hotter than usual. This article has good tips to keep temps under control.

The u3 isn't that good to use in bed though, you need to put it on a flat surface. On laps it's also not very good.....
It's certainly one of the best coolers, but since the base isn't flat, you can't use it on your lap, or bed, without putting it on a flat surface.

Which is why I went for the Targus 17" lap pad. Not as pretty as some but does the job and it is easy to move around on your lap with a nice soft cover :)

Yeah, my U3 sits on a piece of plywood on top of my bed. I tried once to sit the U3 with my R2 directly on my bed. Not good results. Even worse on your lap. If you want a cooling pad for the bed, make sure to get one where the vents come out the sides and not the bottom. My co-worker got one that had the fan intake vents on the bottom instead of the side, boy he said those fans burnt out quick (within a week of bed use).

Love the U3 for the desk - but I use the Logitech lapdesk with the flip up stops atthe lap end, speakers, and fan for the couch/bed. U3 is much better for cooling however and it's aesthetic is about perfect for the m17x on a desk.
