Alright, so I'm considering retiring my desktop rig and making my laptop my primary machine. Thing is, if I want to do that, I'll need to throw some extra power under the hood. Here's a list of my planned upgrades and questions for the experienced community regarding each. Thanks in advance for any insight you might be able to offer.
Video Card:
It seems that everyone stands by upgradeyourlaptop for aftermarket cards, but I've been finding mixed reports about the clevo cards. IIRC, there were issues with the drivers, maybe vbios, and automatic fan control. I'd really like to avoid dealing with those. I've found an ebay store with dell parts, but they are not as handy as the 'upgrade kits' from UYL. Still, I get the feeling that sticking with dell parts might just be a lot easier. I want to know if anyone's had any experience with this seller? Here are a few I've looked at: Alienware 17 18 M17x M17XR4 M18x AMD ATI Radeon HD 8970M 4GB Video Graphics Card | eBay Contains card (and x-bracket?) only,
Dell Alienware NVIDIA GTX780M 780M Video Graphics Card Alienware MSI Clevo | eBay (I'm having a hard time guessing which OEM this card is from and what it comes with.)
Dell Alienware M18x M17x NVIDIA GeForce GTX680M Laptop Video Card CPCXD 680M 2GB | eBay (Card only, but "updated with the latest master v-bios" according to the page. Will this make the installation process easier? Or is it not a big deal? I think it might be easier to install regardless because it's the dell 2gb version of the card.)
I'm currently running a 675m in there, so any of these choices would be a nice improvement for me, though my sights are a bit set on the 780m. Any pitfalls or protips as far as the actual upgrading process goes? I've heard the DIYs can get a bit tricky. Of course, I already have Alienware M17X R3/R4 GPU Swap - YouTube bookmarked.
Wireless Card:
I'm considering going with the intel ultimate n 6300 since the Killer 1103 makes me want to pull my hair out. From what I can tell, it 'should' work, but I'm still curious as to what other people use, or any experiences with the 6300 on the R4.
Storage:
I have two disk drives in RAID0 in there right now. Barely use em. My plan is to use my rig's 2TB drive as an external and throw a couple decent size SSDs in RAID in the laptop. Any thoughts?
Display:
I want to go 120hz. My main reason for upgrading the graphics. Anything I should be aware of before I purchase my display? (pertaining to the laptop and the graphics card in particular.)
I think that's about it. Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

Video card - good seller although you'd probably get a better price at the marketplace section. The 780m is the best upgrade although the 4GB 680m ain't no slouch.
WiFi - have you tried the 1103 card using generic atheros drivers? The Intel one will work fine as long as you don't get one that is made for Lenovo or IBM.
Storage - is totally up to you. Don't really have limitless there.
Display - are you after the upgrade for the refresh rate or the 3D because the latter won't work with the 780m. There will also be no switchable graphics with the 120Hz display, dedicated only. -
Wireless: Yeah I've tried the generic drivers. Killer Drivers. Dell Drivers. Even beta drivers the engineers would release on the forum way back. I've spent countless hours hours on this wireless card and the only answer I can come up with is that it's a defect. I gave up a couple months ago when Killer took down their forum. I just don't actually use my laptop all that much, so I keep procrastinating on getting a new wireless card
Storage: Oh, guess I shoulda been more clear. I was looking for recommendations for SSD brands/models and such to look at.
Display: Yep, that's all ok. I just want that refresh rate. 3D has always had a tendency to cause me headaches anyway... -
I recommend grabbing the new 250GB Samsung 840 Evo, or a larger capacity if necessary. It starts at $190.

I've always thought my 1103 was defect but I've installed the generic drivers and that kinda solved everything. Hope things go better for you with a new WiFi card.
J.Dre as made a good recommendation. The new Samsung SSDs are great. I use a 840 Pro, an 840 Evo is cheaper and offers equally amazing speeds.
Best way to go about upgrades? (R4)
