Hi guys, it's me again with the same problem. After reading what I put, It made no sense, so this time i have pics [: Ok, when I plug in my speakers on the jack closest to me, i hear audio under both Speakers/Front Speakers (The First Picture). When I plug It into the jack farthest from me, I hear audio only from the Speakers, but not on the Rear Speaker Setting (The Second Picture). Is there something wrong with my pc? I read somewhere that It could be my motherboard and that I should have It replaced. AAAAAANNNNYYY Help would be appreciated because I don't know if this is a minor error or something that should be addressed immediatly. Thanks

Ok, I went to the Dell Driver page and downloaded the one released in March. That one has both of the jacks produce audio under both Headphones/Speakers. I'm just gonna tell myself that it's a software problem and pray for the best. [:

    Toledano,

i just want to see if i understand your issue.

First, what kind of speakers do you have? 2 desktop speakers (left + right)?

So if you plug your speakers in the front (closest to you, you hear fine, but if you plug your speakers in the rear port (furthest away from you, you don't hear anything?)

Did you plug it into the mic port by accident? There are 3 audio, the first 2 are for speakers and the last one is for the mic?

Yes, I have a 2.1, left and right, and i can plug it in to the both ports and hear sound but what bothered me was that under jack monitor (for the port fartherst from me -not the mic port-) I could only hear audio through the "headphone" setting, not "rear speaker". Did you look at the pictures? Hover your curser over the pic and you'll see that i named them after what works.

I did look at the pics...i've only ever plugged into the front plug and everything works so i've never bothered to see if the other one works or not. I know on my computer, pluggin in a headset in either port has the same effect...same sound.

But this is all irrelevant for me now that i've gone to usb sound

Let me say it differently because I am making it hard to understand, im sorry. When I plug in the speaker to the front port, the device notification box pops up in the lower right hand corner. Now, i have 2 options.... "Headphones" or "Front Speaker". Both those settings produce audio. Now one time I plugged in the speaker to the rear port and the notification box popped up with these two options. "Headphones" and "Rear Speaker" Now, I only hear audio through the "Headphone" option in the notification option, but when i click on "Rear Speaker" i hear nada. Zip. Zero. I think it was the software problem so i downloaded the previous IDT version and now both settings work under notification box, only that instead of saying "Front/Back Speaker" it just says Speaker......and USB sound??? Could you tell me more about that?

I understand perfectly what you are trying to say now. I'm curious, does headset work in both ports? because it does in mine

Toledano, everytime you talk to me, you end up spending more cash lol

Its no secret that the dell idt audio is average. So i went with a USB x-fi soundcard option. MUCH better. It by-passes the default sound card. in fact, you can disable the IDT device completely

Yups, "Headphone" works just fine for both, which is why it was bugging the hell outta me why "Rear Speaker" wasn't working. And yup, I do end up having to spend money lol. Is the USB soundcard internal? Cuz i saw a previous post saying it was some exterma thing, like an external hardrive.

What if you plug in your speaker and choose "headphone" in the rear port?

I can plug in my speakers later and try it...but i won't be back home till tomorrow (away on business)

ya, its external. you just plug it into a usb port and you have the sound that should have come with a $2K laptop. no more messing with this crappy dell audio

Yes, I hear sound If I do that. And is there any way i could change the internal soundcard? The Origin Eons 17 Has a built in card that comes standard with 7.1. And yeah, I'll look into the USB soundcard.

no i think the dell standard codec is soldered into the motherboard so can't be replaced. I'm a little confused why there is such a crappy sound card in an alienware

Because it was probably 45 cents cheaper than a decent codec. Im peeved that it has 3 audio outs and no line input

look up the drivers and see if it still uses the IDT chip.

edit, I just looked on dell website and its providing a IDT driver.
so it would be safe to assume that its either very little or no improvement.
