no one? I know theres a way to boot up in binary by holding down the right mouse button, but is there a way to boot up in your card by holding down something?

Same problem here. Although for some reason even through it says it's in "internal graphics mode" it's still using the 9800m gt? All that happens is the option box pops up and says it needs to restart than nothing??

Nope, I check in device manager after every restart, it never puts me back into my video card, I even tried making it so my osdutility.exe as admin rights, and not it will actually reboot my comp, but still boots up in binaryGFX

I guess i just got lucky getting stuck with the 9800...to be honest i think i might just go back to vista. The pros of windows 7 dont seem to out weigh the cons just yet. Hopefully Alienware/Dell dont abandon the old m15x and get on figuring out all the windows 7 issues. Its sucks to have spent good money on an OS that should be great but my hardware doesnt want to play nice with it. Im sure after some time it should all get worked out....

I followed dhoang417's guide when I installed win7 64bits Ultimate and I have no issues with BinaryGFX (or with anything else).
    By the way thanks dhoang417.

    Hi

Usually when I use the internal GPU I turn my laptop on my holding down the right mouse bottom. This will boot the laptop, start windows media center and it will be running on the internal card. To go back I shutdown my pc, not restart. then when I boot the computer using the alienhead it will be on the external card.

    Hope it helps!

i too have the same issue as well....it shows me the in the "integrated graphics (Internal)" notification at startup...but for some odd reason is still showing the External graphics card (ATI 3870) in the Device manager.... i tried following the steps given here http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/434209-binarygfx-not-working-win-7-64-bit.html#post5574924 but still is not showing the notification for "High Performance (External)" which should be the case.

I even tried formatting and reinstalling the OS and drivers from scratch and believe it or not it still showing me the "Integrated Graphics (Internal)" notification even now....

Any help with this would be truly helpful....

    Thank you.

    Balkazzaar...

I really need a solution for this, tried everything I could think of from uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, to reinstalling Windows. I'm always stuck on the integrated card and can't for the life of me switch back...

    Anyone have a solution?

When you guys are booting up does the laptop say its going into stealth mode? If so, that would turn off your binary graphics. They can be re-enabled in the BIOS settings.

I had something similar in rare occasions. In my case, the BIOS settings for graphics adapter were disabled and remained like that. Only option is to set them manually to enabled again in the BIOS. Gointo the BIOS at bootup (F2) and change the adapter settings for both hybrid graphics and integrated graphics to enabled (i think it's in the second menu 'advance' -> graphics settings (at the bottom of the screen -> and then you can change it) and save settings.

I'm making this post on THIS thread since it was the ONE thread that managed to address my problem AND give me the clues on how to fix it.

I have an original m15x T9300 with an AMD 8700m 512. I just recently upgraded my hard drive AND installed an OEM copy of Win 7 - 64bit(for which I do NOT regret)

Got everything working thanks to the threads posted here and the useful guide posted by "dhoang417" :D

When I initially finished my install I was able to use the NVidia driver posted thru Alienware, however the OSD kept saying that it was using the "internal" rather than the "external" GPU.

I booted the system up using the "right mouse" button which did boot it into the internal drive where Win 7 installed the Intel GPU. That's when I experienced the problem of NOT being able to change back.

To SOLVE this problem do the following:
    • Reboot computer.
    • Turn off the UAC "User Access Control" (the OSD program can NOT work correctly unless it can do the reboot and it never polls the UAC so it hangs.)
    • Once your system is booted use the "FN-F7" option and choose the "OK" to reboot now. Your system should reboot.
    • As soon as it starts to boot, go directly into "Safe Mode w/Networking" (F8 right after POST before Window's logo. If you miss it you will have to us the "FN-F7" and reboot again)
    • Once you are in Safe Mode go to "Device Manager" and look at the "Display Adaptors." You should see one that is listed as a "Standard VGA." Install the Alienware Driver vers. 186.03. The install will state that it is not signed but proceed anyways.
    • Reboot normally and you should be now on the EXTERNAL mode using the NVidia Card.

I hope this helps anyone who is having this issue. Worst case I might have to refer back to this myself (hopefully not)

Thanks to EVERYONE for making their posts about fixes and problems available so that we can get ideas and perhaps solve more of these issues... especially since ALIENWARE could give a about us m15x original users.
