    Hey guys,
I am talking to you very desperate cuz my 2 week old alienware m17x is facing serious trouble now and I wouldn't be able to thank u guys enough f you could help me
The thing is I reinstalled windows 7 on my lappy and went to Dell site to download all drivers and bios
I did everything at once and then started flashing my bios
I did everything as instructed I kept the electrical source and I didn't unplug any of the USB or the network cable
Anyways, after that the phoenix software told me it will shut down automatically and so it did and here comes my problem
When I tried to turn the thing on, it gives me a black screen and that's it
The keyboard fx is ok, I can hear the fans and even the hard disk but unfortunately, nothing happens after that
The caps lock indicator doesn't respond to my press
And I can't even shut it down using the alien head button and I can shut it down by only unplugging it and taking off the battery
So please guy, tell me what should I do
I asked a friend and told me I can dispatch the bios chip and turn on another computer and when I log in to windows I should take it's bios chip off and then put my corrupted bios instead and then I can use the same software to flash a new fresh clean bios into the chip. So do u think will this method work out or not?? And what bios model should I use??
If it won't work please tell me how can I get a new chip and what model exactly should I use???
Please tell me how bad is my situation and what is the worst scenario??
    Thank you all in advance

Call dell and explain how you have a bad bios flash.
They will have to replace the motherboard so hopefully you are under warranty.

    Good luck

I'm no expert so others may correct me but if nothing is working anyways you could maybe try and clear the CMOS?

What's your friend is sugesting you i think is called bios hot swap, and is not something you want to do on a laptop, and evoidable if possible on a desktop

    edit:

here is a link you might find usefull. Problem is i don't know how accesible the bios eeprom is inside the alienware

Yeah, I did this once before (about 10 years ago) on a desktop and it was a HUGE pain.
Not something I would ever do again.

I still say call dell, tell them about your bad bios flash and have them send you a replacement motherboard.

Doesn't the BIOS control the fans and the keyboard lights?

Yes, you can fix the computer without any problems. Follow ILS link. You have to create BIOS CRISIS RECOVERY disk and you will need a 2 GB USB drive for that (remember, it has to be 2 GB only).

However, after I pass this stage and the notebook started, my system's fans were running at aprox. 2500 RPM continuosly. There were some parts on the motherboard running hot and that was the reason why the fans where on at all time.

Finally I got a motherboard replacement and everything is just fine now.

Hope you will solve your problem soon.

    New Update guys, sounds promising.
Ive been trying the CRISIS software and found a method to gain access to the bios screen, the blue one that is, it tells me that the bios version is A09 and even the keyboard gets back to work. However, do you think this is a good sign or not and what should I do next??
Is there anyway to restore the old bios through this screen or even flashing the bios?? I am waiting the external Floppy Disk Drive tomorrow but I wish I could solve it now.
Please guys I am very desperate right here.

Have you tried unplugging the power adapter, main battery, CMOS battery, and do the power drain and see if it boots after that?
    What is CRISIS software?
And you can access the BIOS? Does that mean you can see the Alien head when turned on?
According to your previous post, I don't think you have a bricked BIOS (just my personal opinion).

Now I have logged in to windows, I don't know what I was pressing but it told me something like this"Intel is booting by the default firmware settings" and voila, Windows logged on.
I checked the system information and it told me my current bios is A09 which means my bios chip wasn't reflashed but rather the system booted using a hidden bios files in the mobo that I triggered. The problem is I went to dell.com and downloaded A07 bios and flashed again. When it has done and shut down, the same problem came again and sadly I dont know how I did the first time to do it again. So if anybody knows how to activate the Intel hidden bios recovery, please tell me how.
By the way, I was trying to do the crisis recovery method but I activated the Intel recovery thing, so maybe it has to do something with it.

    Oooooooooooooh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I did the most stupid thing at all.
I gained access to windows now but I tried to reflash the bios using the bios files that came originally with the laptop which was taken as back-up from the flash software. Everything went Ok till it tried to shut down and then it froze.
I waited 15 minutes and nothing then I unplugged the laptop then re-plugged it again, when I try to turn it on now, nothing. Literally nothing No lights no sounds no fans even the battery doesn't change any more.
Do you think my mobo is fried??
If I want to replace it, what model should I order??

The BIOS is bricked. The whole computer is fine but there is no way to reflash the BIOS on your own. You will need to have the motherboard changed. There is no alternate way at the moment.
