    Hi all,

Received my M17x R4 the other day.

I have been trying to install the modded A08 bios so I can turn the integrated graphics off.

Here is a detailed list of how I have tried doing it:

    • Downloaded the bios update.
    • Extracted the files from the rar to desktop.
    • Double clicked FWUpdLcl
    • Dos window quickly saying lots of white text and an error code 8716 in red at the bottom
    • A new error file is added to the desktop in text form saying error 8716
    • I then try InsydeFlashx64 file.
    • Double click and the Insydeflash window appears
    • It quickly has an error box appear saying "warning: file size does not match"

Any ideas? I really wanna get it sorted so I can start benchmarking and playing games.

    Help needed badly :)

    Thanks!
    Matt

Stop!. The A08 BIOS, locked or unlocked, is for the R3. Assuming that you were ever successful in forcing a flash of the incompatable R3 BIOS, chances are you would end up with a bricked R4. The R4 uses a different chipset and a different system BIOS. An unlocked version of the R4 BIOS should be available from the usual sources once the details of the new system are decoded. Be patient.

^^^^ what he said. You will brick your M17xR4. Not even the same chipset as the R3, you will highly likely brick.

Thanks for the help guys! Glad I asked now :)

So at the mo I'm best off using FN and F7? How do I know which one is enabled between integrated and 7970m?

check through the AMD catalyst application under power settings. IIRC, there should be an option that states what GPU you are on. Also typically on iGPU, the intel tray icon should appear on the bottem right of your screen. On ATI gpu, its gone.
