I have a very strange and unexplained problem. The fan keeps going on for no reason. I dont have a ton of programs running, ive scanned my comp multiple times, but it keeps happening. Now the problem is that when the fan comes on, the fps of any game im playing drops to about 5, making it unplayable. My keyboard also stops working, i have to hit each key 5-6 times. this obviously makes my computer basicly unuseable. It started a few days ago, restarting my computer fixes it for a few hours, but then it happens again. My computer is also very clean, so its not dust. Any help explaining what the heck is going on would be much appreciated.

Oh yeah, heres the really strange part-there no heat. i can usually feel the heat if my computer is hot, but its cool when this happens.

i would download hwinfo just to see what your temps actually are when it happens.
is it the gpu fan or cpu fan that is kicking on.
also which m17x do you have r1,2 or 3

Could be throttling due to overheating. The specs of you computer will help (specifically which GPU you have under the hood).

For starters, download HWiNFO64 from here: Enternal Link (hwinfo.com). Run the program. If you have an ATI GPU you should be fine to run the program as is. If you have an nVidia GPU go to configure and disable "LPC & EC Support" and enable "SW SMI".
After that, in the main window of the program, click sensors. This will open a new window. At the bottom of the window click the little fan icon button. Yet another window will pop up. If you have "LPC & EC Support" disabled and "SW SMI" enabled, in the fan control window, click custom auto and select DELL EC from the sensor drop-down menu and CPU from the reading menu. Set the fan speed to 4000 for temps above 55*C. Click ok and leave the fan control window open. Run your game and the fans should kick in when the temp.
Do the same for "LPC & EC Support" enable and "SW SMI" except select your GPU and GPU temperature from the drop-down menus.

Make sure you have "LPC & EC Support" disabled and "SW SMI" enabled in the config menu.

    Try disabling EC-ACPI Sync.

Just making sure, but I assume you have an nVidia card?

In any case, try running it off either the CPU or GPU temp sensor and see if you run into stability issues.

Have you looked at your CPU and GPU temperatures at all? With custom fan profiles, you're sort of treating the symptom rather than the cause.

Download HWMonitor, and post a screenshot after your fans spin up for us to have a look at.

Check your start up programs, run a virus scan, check your temps. Also when the fan comes on check your task manager to see whats using the CPU. Also post your system specs.
