Hello guys, so recently when i start up my m17x it would not show the logging screen and it would only be a black screen with a mouse. At first it would be a disk check before this would happen but now the disk check is gone scince i did it through the F12 menu.

However it would still now show the login screen. I tried going into safemode (which does work) and then uninstalling the nvidia drivers but still it wont start up :(

before I did uninstall the driver i did have my GPUs overclocked so that might be the problem? This is the first time this happen in a year

guys? anyone? BTW incase i do have to reinstall windows? I lost my alienware windows 7 ultimate CD. So where can i get a windows 7 copy that would give me that great alienware theme and drivers and stuff?

so i am guessing the scenario would be.

get a windows 7 copy on a cd
    boot from F12
    install

    right? :D

Hi! There are 2 things that may be causing the issue, you can try disabling the hybrid function in the BIOS, or even better just loading the BIOS defaults by pressing the fn+f9 keys together in the BIOS screen, and then saving the changes and exit it.
Also here is the complete guide to install windows on an Alienware computer, since you don't have the disc you may need to use another Windows 7 Disc and enter your Product ID (on the bottom of the machine there), if you need to acquire one you can let us know to [email protected] and we will help you with that. If you continue with the other process you can download later the Alienware themes for Windows 7 from here . If after performing those steps the computer still has the same issue a HW component may need to be replaced so please send us an e-mail to [email protected] and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

    Don't forget to add the following;

Service tag, phone number and a brief description of the issue.

Hope this is useful to you. #IWork4AW

I'm a little confused. How far does your system get?

    1. On power-up does the alien head logo appear?

    2. Does the POST info show up like normal?

    3. Does the Windows 7 "glowing Window marquee" come up to show windows is loading?

    4. Do you hear the start-up sound?

If windows itself can start up into safemode, but has a blank screen if you try and start windows normally, then that could be a conflicting program/driver, or your registry has been corrupted. If that is the case, a clean install would be advisable. Not sure where you can download a copy of the Alienware Windows 7 DVD. You can search Google or call Alienware.

for question 1 2 3, yes yes yes. but as for the sound I am not sure.

I did do a system restore but it didnt fix it :( (maybe because the restore was off the hard disk).

ill just have to install a normal copy of windows :(

Yeah, no disrespect to Alienware_Luis, but System Restore is Windows Cancer. That's why Alienware and other companies offer completely different alternative software to backups & restores.

But I digress...Its clear Windows is trying to start up. But since you did the system restore, you could have made the problem worse. It sounds like the winlogon.exe, ntuser.data, or ntuser.ini is missing or corrupted. Our old Dell desktop didn't go black screen when that happened. It went to the login screen, but with no user names to choose from. I ended up doing a clean install anyway. That's probably the route you need to go. Just backup your files first.

    You said
Does that mean your boot drive is an SSD? If true, then after you clean install windows make sure your SSD's firmware is up to date.

Look for the trackpad itself on eBay. Then ask the sellers if any of them have the ribbon cables for it that they're willing to sell. That's how I got my replacement ones.
