    Hello everyone

I have recently updated my computer and ran into an issue where the screen would remain black when resuming from sleep.

I thought this was due to all the crap I had installed on my system over the last two years and that it was finally giving up but some hours ago I reinstalled it, and lo and behold, the same black screen issue.

I suspect that this is happening with the official 12.6 driver (6990M) and would like to know if there is any other experiencing the same issue, or have experienced it and found a fix?

    System specs:

    Alienware M17x R3
    CPU: 2760QM
    RAM: 16GB
    GPU: 6990M + Intel HD 3000 (Switchable)
    HDD: Dual 750gb Raid0 (1.4tb usable)
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (clean install, all drivers)

    Thank you

p.s. to confirm this, I am planning to uninstall 12.6 and install the old 11.6 that shipped with the machine.

I'm having no issues at all so far with the latest beta driver installed on top of the regular dell stock drivers. I'm on windows 8 though and not 7.

It was a joke, i had the same problem with beta driver with my nvidia video card, but the new ones fixed the problems, it was simply buggy drivers.

Which stock drivers did you use, bigtonyman, the 12.6 or the old 11.6?

That's usually what happens, waiting for the new drivers should help.

Just the 6990m drivers off the m17x r3 page on the Dell site. Not sure what version exactly they are though.

I've had the same problem as you for as long as I can remember! I'm on NVidia (even when I used to have the 560M installed), and it's always done that, I could never figure out how to fix it. It doesn't bother me, because I don't need to use 'sleep', but I can see why it would p*ss off a number of people. Perhaps it's nothing to do with the graphics drivers if it's happening across AMD, NVidia, and also on my laptop now that has Optimus disabled (due to 670MX being installed). Perhaps it's something else in the system of the M17xR3 that is causing the problem. Just speculation on my part.

Finally got around to try different drivers. So far no luck, the official 12.6 with no additional drivers gives the black screen on resume, the same with both 12.6+13.4 and 12.6+13.10.
Removed all drivers from the system and sweep'ed it, resuming just fine.
Next up in a couple of hours, trying the old official drivers for the system, 11.6 and combining them with 13.4.

Apparently my subscription failed, so I hadn't seen the latest replies.
Okay, bigtonyman. Hopefully the old 11.6 will help.
Robbo99999, =( , hopefully it can be fixed, otherwise there is no other solution then to report it to my reseller and wait for repairs, while attending uni =(

    [EDIT]

Just tried the 11.6 drivers and it resumed instantly from standby, even faster than before (due to clean install). Will try and adding the 13.4 on top of the 11.6 and see what happens.

Is the 13.10 worth trying as well or should I just stick to the 13.4, if they work of course.

    [EDIT]

BSOD during 13.4 install resulting in corrupted drivers and unable to install them again (works sometimes). Restoring back to 11.6. Got any tips to update to 13.x bigtonyman?

Does your Alienware OSD volume level popup, when turning the volume up and down, go from 2-3-4-5-1-6-7-8-9-10? (The lines in front of the speaker)
