My Alienware M17x recently started having a major issue. When I power it on, all the fans seem to work, all the lights work fine, the CAPS lock flashes constantly, but nothing appears on the screen. It's just blank. I tried everything I could think of. Reseating the memory/swapping memory, swapped motherboards, GPU's, CPU's, keyboard, touchpad, power button bar, monitor, reseated all cables many times, disconnected the button battery, ac adapter and battery, did the 30 second drain to reset the BIOS. Nothing has changed a thing. Even tried an external monitor but it didnt work, problem is I cannot get into the BIOS since it just seems dead. It usually would beep if it's only running on the battery but it powers on and stays quiet. Any have a possible solution? One thing that may help is I swapped parts between two computers, same models. Put the CPU into my working M17x and said something about being overclocked, gave me an error message.

If it is just the caps lock flashing at startup and the scroll/num lock are solid then it is a problem with the memory. You either have to reseat it or replace it. Run a memtest. You'll have to burn it to a disc and run it before startup by changing the boot order. See if it comes up with any errors.

Refer to this thread for the dell led codes:

Ok I followed that post. Says the memory is the problem, I tried reseating it many times, used memory that I know works, still does the same thing. I tried 4 different motherboards now and nothing is working. Plus, it is hard to tell what's wrong with the other motherboards because the AlienFX chip on them don't work, so no LED's work whatsoever. Also, do you know if I can still run these tests since nothing displays on the screen? It's just a blank screen as if the computer isn't even turned on. I've spent hours trying to get this to work. So frustrating.

I've seen other people post their thoughts about Dell's support and it sounds like it sucks. I know when I try to talk to somebody online, they will never help you. Especially since on the US site it has live chat and if you aren't from the States they won't offer to help you, even if the laptop was originally from there. I might call them today, see what happens though.
