So I got my ram and my SSD in finally. I wasn't comfortable doing it myself so I took it to a local computer shop that is reputable.
First thing the tech tells me when i pick up the computer today is that the ram dell has installed in my computer is 1200 mhz, not 4 GB 1600 mhz as advertized on there website.
Second thing is that he forgot to install my 580m GTX driver, which is also not a big deal to me so I installed that off dells website and boom still not a problem.
Everything is fine when i take the computer home, but then the guy forgot to install command center and mcafee and there was an update for .net framework. Basically, I went on to install Command center and then all hell broke lose.
First off command center FX isn't working right (not able to change the color zones on my keyboard and i'm getting .net framework errors when i open CC and when i start and shut down the computer.
Second thing is Windows desk top Aero is no longer graphically showing the desktop toolbar with the correct colors.
I was reading about driver install order on the forums and I noticed that I did install the CC before i updated to .net framework 4 so I uninstalled CC and then restarted my comp and tryed it again. Still the same problem and now everytime I open up firefox, internet explorer my computer goes blue screen of death and then 3-4 seconds later quickly restarts
So what is the problem? Is it the SSD ? Is it the ram?
I've got a m4 128 GB Crucial SSD running in Raid 0. I've got the ram that dell gave me running 4 GB at 1200 mhz (according to the tech) I haven't got to check that myself yet. Then the ram that I had him install which is the 4x2 GB 1600 Mhz.
Sorry for the wall of text, I'll be bringing the computer back to the tech tomorrow and i expect him to fix it, but i thought I'd ask your guys opinion.

Hello,
I have some questions:
- did you say that you were using raid0? from what you wrote I thought you had only one SSD?
- did you test with your old RAM?
- does your new ram run at the required voltage? (should be automatic)
I heard there was a lot of issues with command center, maybe you should check if you have the latest version because there is a warning on the DELL forum that users should not run the CC version delivered on the retail DVD, see this
The issue could be quite serious from what I can see, check on the DELL forum, there are many posts talking about CC issues. -
Sorry was sleeping, yes I said raid 0, the tech said that was fine and yes i do only have 1 ssd. No i havent tested with my old ram.
I didnt install from the cd however i did install it from dells website. The command center version was from like 2010 though so it could be out of date. -

your issues have nothing to do with ram or an ssd. Its in your reinstall of the apps and drivers
BTW, there is no way dell gave you ram that runs at 1200. No such ram exists. Its possible to run ram at 1200...but that means you are underclocking your bclk a lot which is very unlikely. Your tech probably doesn't know what he is talking about. Look on the sticks themselves, they have a sticker on them with the speeds. Also, download CPUz and click on the memory tab -
thats what he showed me was the sticker on the ram itself. I got the problem fixed as it was just a driver problem. I'll download CPUz shortly.

^^Agree completely with SlickDude80.
First, go to Control Panel>Uninstall a Program and right click on Command Center (alternatively, it could say Alienware Command Center, depending on the version installed) and uninstall. While you're there, also uninstall Alienware On-Screen Display (this will eventually fix the aero problem). Then download and install the following:
a) Drivers and Downloads (new OSD), and
b) Drivers and Downloads (current version of Command Center).
This should fix the most pressing problems.
Also agree that if Dell sold you 1600Mhz DRAM, then 99:1 that's what came in your R3. DDR3 PC3-12800 is 1600Mhz memory; it's just a different designation. Perhaps your tech was confused by the label terminology, but it is not obscure. CPU-Z (Memory Tab) will tell the tale.
Do these things and let us know the results. If there is more to be done, there's plenty of help right here.
Incidentally, very nice computer. Welcome to the club. -
