Yesterday I was playing COD Modern Warfare 3 when the game just stopped running and a BSOD appeared. It then happened a little later while I was playing Driver San Francisco.
Here are the errors:
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED -- 0x1000007e
UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP -- 0x0000007f
Has this happened to anyone else, can I fix this myself or am I gunna have to phone Dell?![]()

If you plan on sticking around the NBR forums for a while, I recommend that you put your system specs in your signature. I'm assuming if you're here, that you have an R1, R2 or R3. Knowing your specs will help others to better determine what your problem might be.
Blue screens can happen for literally any reason. If you haven't disabled crash dumps, you can analyze them with a program called WhoCrashed. It will point you to the most likely candidate.
Some blue screens are intermittent, and you'll never see them again. Some are very persistent, and need to be investigated. -
R3. I should have added my specs, I'll get to that, also, I should also have added that I went onto Dell's download site and updated my gfx driver and I'll be updating everything else.
I'll report back if I see these blue screens again. -

Jeez. Your laptop seems to be BSODing almost as much as mine. You've definitely got a culprit there. It has something to do with the ATI driver. My laptop got to the point where it would BSOD right after the Windows 7 splash screen unless I had no driver installed. Have you tried both the AMD drivers and the Dell drivers? I know I'm kind of stating the obvious here, but it is all I have for you.

Hey Nall, try installing in this order.
1. Dell Driver from their site
2. 11.9 Catalyst
3. 11.10 Catalyst
So install Dell driver, then restart. Then "WITHOUT" removing or uninstalling the dell driver, install the 11.9. Restart one more time. Install the 11.10 over it. See if that works for you.
I did it in that order(well because 11.10 wasnt out yet) on my 6970 and its been working 100% so far. -
"The version of your graphics adapter is not supported"
"Please contact your notebook manufacturer for a graphics driver update."
This is why I just grabbed the Dell update. -
Did you do it in this exact order though?
-
-
Here's the 11.9 http://www2.ati.com/Drivers/mobile/11-9_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe
Then here's the 11.10 http://www2.ati.com/DriVeRs/mobile/11-10_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe
Try again in the order I put, and see if it works. Good luck man. -
-
So...any luck?
-
I won't get the chance to test it out until tonight though. But I will report back.
Thanks again. -
I'm assuming things went well?
