I have owned my M17x since last June but only used the Blueray drive a few times back then. So I purchased Ironman2 on Blueray and when I went to play it I get a screen that says I have to purchase the software? Any ideas about why this happened and how I can work around it?

    Thanks!

IronMan 2 is most likely using a new codec that will need the newer software. I had hell getting IronMan 1 to work when I first got it. It does suck alot to have to pay for software after paying for the drive and movie....but if you do it once you are pretty much set. This is what I ended up doing (for my htpc - the M17x has been working well with the included PowerDVD 8 so far)

When I select Cyberlink Power DvD, it comes up with 10 and says I must upgrade to use it as my trial period has expired.... Whatever happened to just playing the DvD or Blueray DvD on your system without this added nonsense?

i'm about to cave in and buy arcsoft total media theatre 3/powerdvd10. powerdvd8 doesn't play any of the newer bd's that i'm getting from netflix.

to answer the question above, since bluray isn't a mature format and is constantly being updated we are now forced to buy bd player software, which does get updated by the software company, to play all of the newer discs that are coming out.

If you ordered the M17x with the blu ray drive, the resource disk should have a pre-activated oem copy of powerdvd8 that plays blu ray. That is what I have been using in my laptop. It will only load on systems with an alienware bios though

I only have 10 for my HTPC because I could not use the AW version there and was tired of torrented versions getting killed by software updates lol

    yes, exactly!!

on powerdvd8, i'm having trouble playing a bunch of new bd's that are either really recent or are from lionsgate. i researched one bd that wouldn't play and apparently lionsgate bd's are quirky in terms of being able to play on all bd players. about half of the new bd's i get from netflix either have problems playing or won't play at all.

total mediatheatre 3 from arcsoft's website is 59.99$ and there's a 20% off coupon that they have if you search on the web. i think i might cave in and go for that.
