Does anyone have slow boot in their alienware into win 7? Granted mine us a conventional 7200 rpm hard drive but when i login the welcome screen with spinning blue circle seems to take 30 secs approx before it then loads into desktop. Actually booting to login screen is quite quick and once it reaches desktop it's also fast loading. It's just this welcome screen. I looked on net and tried the wallpaper fix but no dice. Do you think that I have the pre installed mcafee on my laptop is having an effect? Even when I first got the laptop the welcome was slow (about 15 secs). Maybe respawn slows it down too? The whole process from cold boot to usable desktop takes approx 2 minutes on average on my machine!
Thanks,
Wayne

Thats long. I cant hurt to get rid of Mcafee. People are slating it at the moment. Go with Micrsoft security essentials.

It's giving me serious food for thought but even my vista laptop (Xps m1730) doesn't do this and this also has mcafee! Plus am paid up for another year. I tried looking for a suggested registry fix to change the value of the 'delayeddesktopswitchtimeout' from 30 to 5 but I havent got that entry in my registry! Frustrating. I am sure even if I had a solid state drive I would get this 'welcome screen delay'

No harm in unistalling it and giving it a try.

Windows often bogs in loading for oh so many reasons. Google it for ideas as to how to fix it or just bite the bullet and reinstall it! Also keep backups every month or so so you can reload it if it screws up again.

If you're going to pay for maleware protection look into ESET. Like Joe said Microsoft security essentials is the best free software out at the moment. McAfee is just a resource hog.

Yeah, usmc362, I'm having the same experience, but I think that it's a Windows or Windows configuration/setting issue. Haven't figured it out yet.
For others, download CCleaner. On the Tools tab, there is a Startup option which lists and lets you disable any programs or utilities that are launched when Windows starts. Disable everything that is not absolutely necessary. If you disable something important, you can always return and enable it. An awful lot of junk gets added there by almost every program that gets installed, and very little is either necessary or useful. Cull the startup programs.
