Bose Earbuds with Mic wont work.... PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hey all I wanted to try something different instead of using my Astro A50's with my Alienware 17. I went to BestBuy and bought a set of Bose Freestyle earbuds with a mic made for the Samsung Galaxy. My friend has a Lenovo Y50 and uses that same headset and it works flawlessly. When I first plug the Bose into the computer ( yes I am using the correct port) the sound isn't clear and you cant even make out words in a song. I then plug it into the headphone only port and the music sounds great!. I have never had anything plugged into any of the ports before. Thinking it was a faulty headset I took it back and bought the same set with the same results. When I use the earbuds that came with my Galaxy S5 it works absolutely perfect sound is great and chat is great but they hurt my ears. Long story short does anyone know if the Bose freestyle earbuds with a mic will work on my A17 that is less than 1 year old?

P.S The guy at BestBuy said to try the bose that is made for the ipad/iphone. Does anyone know if that will work?

 

Well I went back to best buy and bought the bose freestyle earbuds made for apple and they still dont work... Im completely out of ideas...
