I just got my M17x-R2 today. Right out of the box, I get an error message from Windows 7 on boot up. The error says "The AC adapter currently connected is not supported. System will continue to operate on battery. Press any key to continue."

Should I be concerned? The laptop doesn't appear to be running on battery power, but I get this message every single time I reboot my computer. Any thoughts or ideas?

    Thanks, everyone!

hold down the power button without the batter in for about 30 seconds, re-seat the battery when you're done and see if that works.

Thanks, Darkloki! I'll give it a try and post back the results.

Well, I tried what you suggested, Darkloki, but it didn't help. When I reboot, I still get the message, even if the battery is not in place. So, with the battery in or the battery out the laptop still thinks that my power supply isn't supported and the laptop is running on battery power (neat trick, without the battery even being in place).

I'll see what else I can find out. Surely, I can't be the only person with this problem.

    Thanks, again, Darkloki!

That is actually a common problem. I don't remember the solution. You may want to search the forums.

I would try unplugging the AC adapter from both the computer and the wall. It sounds like the power supply had a fault, and that may reset it.

Darkloki is on the right track. Make sure both the battery and AC adapter are NOT plugged into the computer. Then hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Insert both battery and AC adapter and boot up. Let me know what happens..

Well, Crocs09, that didn't work either. I unplugged both the battery and the AC adapter, held the power button down for 10 seconds, and then inserted the battery and plugged in the AC adapter and booted up. The only thing different was not only did I get an error message from Win 7 (same message about AC adapter not being supported) I also got an error message during POST saying that my AC adapter was not a Dell's AC adapter. It hasn't done that before. So, I'm ready to try something else if you have anything else in mind. This is kind of disheartening. Brand new system costing a lot of money but having a irritating problem like this right out of the box. And I've been googling like mad and still can't find an answer. Ugh. Thanks, though, for your help! Let me know if you have anything else in mind that I can try.

It sounds like you have a faulty adapter. Just call dell tech support and describe the issues you are having. They should just overnight you a new one.

It is pretty messed up that this is happening right out of the box, but sometimes these things just happen...

Hummmm  that's weird. I had similar problems with my Dell XPS M1330... Good news and bad news... Good news is, it's probably the AC adapter itself and not the system... Call Dell and tell them to send you out a new charger... Bad news is, if that doesn't work, there is a good chance it's a problem with the motherboard.. Don't panic yet. Call Dell, try the new charger.. Let us know how it goes..

Yeah, I'll definitely give Dell a call. I sent an email to their tech support about this, but they said I needed to call the Alienware tech support because there isn't any email support for Alienware. How strange! I'd much rather deal with someone through email than over the phone. Anyway, I'll let you guys know how it all turns out. Thanks!
