I was in the process of flashing my 5870m to up the voltage and wasnt paying attention to what i was doing. I read the bios of the main card, changed the voltage, in RBE, saved it out and loaded it in the AVFlash tool.

then i hit the program button to see what it did, and it said it flashed the card and i had to reboot for the changes to take effect. straight after that the alienware doesnt boot, num lock and caps lock flash. no post, no bios.

so i swapped the cards over, including heat sinks and the second card now works fine as the primary. trouble is, i cant plug the other card in as it no longer boots. i dont see the post screen, it just sort of sits there doing nothing with the lights on. i tried it with the crossfire cable plugged in and removed entirely, same result.

any suggestions on how to get to windows with both cards there so i can flash the broken one back to its orig bios

    > has anyone ever contacted ATI to see if they can help.

I guess i will have to buy a new card

what a bugger, guess i shouldnt do this stuff when im dog tired.

    > can these cards be plugged into a normal desktop? A big N O.

    > i guess as i cant see post i cant boot off a usb stick etc.. your only option is to blind flash

    > is there anything on the card that manually resets the bios? No you flashed the bios of the video card. without a bios its a paper weight.

    > has anyone ever contacted ATI to see if they can help. Probably not.

Heres a good link to helping you blind flash.

practice on your good card write down how many steps you need to do eg ( tape f2 wait 5 seconds tap arrow key left 4 times hit enter type vflash wait 15 seconds reboot)

Do you have a warranty? And with the card plugged in it won't boot right? I had a similiar situation, fried GPU due to heavy benching, and dell replaced the GPUs.

ouch. So you're saying even with the secondary in the Primary slot and the primary bricked card in the secondary slot, it still won't boot?

Try disconnecting the CF cable if that's the case.

Yea, I had the same thing when I fried my card, when a dead card is connected to the mobo, booting is a no go. Might be able to blind flash, but I doubt it.
