Hey guys, I just put up a post on ideastorm, Dells platform where users can send in ideas and suggestions for Dell products.

It's about bringing back 16:10 displays for Alienware notebooks and offering RGB led screens as option (remember the M17x R2...).
Please vote and promote this if you like the idea, here's the link:

Yeah great idea, or we could just salvage the many disused M17x R2's out there with the same screen, its not as though the newest iteration is a marked improvement by any measure, except for those who have a fetish for plastic.

I think I would rather purchase a used/refurbished M17x R2 off of ebay for ~$1k, add whatever GPU combination I fancy, and an Extreme processor and still be under $2k total for a rocking laptop that is more powerful that the existing consoles and some desktops......in fact that is exactly what I did.

Everyone is happy, including the many used R2's floating around and the environment.

And yet I don't see the word "matte" mentioned anywhere in that post...

I don't think 16:10 is ever going to come back, last ones are what Fujitsu tablets, Macbook Pro's. The trend is against 16:10, already a dying breed since 2009. If they offered higher than 1080p on M18x or M17x + RGBLED option, then it would be fine.

Yeah the last ones were in the MacBook Pros and even then, the newest MacBook air models have 16:9 screens. I do a lot of film stuff so I don't mind 16:9 that much because it means I have no black bars when using widescreen videos. That being said, I still would like to see a 16:10 2560x1600 M18x retina display screen :D I mean if the rumours are true about the iPad 3 having a 2048x1536 screen then I don't see why there shouldn't be higher res density screens in laptops with larger screens.

    Time to take some initiative...
Personally I prefer the glossy screens.

Though I usually prefer matte, glossy are okay for DTR laptops that primarily sit inside, also makes the LCD more vivid, but for laptops that I constantly bring everywhere I definitely prefer matte.

Glossy for me, too. It seems my systems with a matte screen seem to show wear and abrasion marks more so than glossy, and I find the glossy easier to clean. I hate fingerprints on screens, and my matte screens always seem to get them no matter how hard I try to avoid touching the screen, and sometimes they're a bear to remove. They wipe off easily with a microfiber cloth on glossy screen.

I rather glossy on my M17x as well. Like what you said Tsunade, the LCD definitely seems more vivid.

My M11x on the other hand...

*turns and glares at the M11x in the corner of the room, only to see a perfect reflection*

It would be nice if the M18x R1 came fitted with RGB which is one of its few legitimate complaints.

Personally, I like 16x9 better. If my motherboard goes and civilization is still standing at that point in time (5-10 years), i.e. the internet still works, the U.S. dollar is still in use, there are M18x R2's with an RGB 16x9 screen to be had (used, sorry I don't have $4k to spare), and I have really developed my Permaculture/Organic gardening skills and related self-sufficiency skills and have the spare time to spend on what will then be a nostalgic activity, "back when there used to be cars!", then yes, please put the RGB in the next iteration of performance laptops.

Amend that to include 2560x1600 resolution. :) Voted.

Edit: NVM, I see you requested 2880x1800. Unorthodox, but then again, I want a 16.4" high-res 16:10 screen on a small and thin footprint. :p

Thanks for the votes so far :) Seeing that Samsung has now a market-ready 4.8 inch 1080p display it's high time the pixel density in AW systems increases...

Sorry but I prefer 16:9. It just seems to view more "natural" to me. And it also gives more width to display several things next to each other, what I like too.

We won't see 4:3, doesn't get produced anymore (as far as I know), and it wouldn't fit in the current chassis.
16:10 does fit in the lid of the current AW design.

And 16:10 is slowly being phased out of production as well, so even if it physically fits, supply won't be significant enough to make your request feasible.
