Hi guys, I want to buy an Alienware M17x but I don't know if Dell is planning to launch a new model or new GPU's in the next months...
Do you think it worth buying now or wait? Basically I want to play Crysis, Metro 2033 and new games like Battlefield 3 or Diablo 3.
PD: M18x is too expensive for me so I'm only interested in M17x.
Cheers.

Dell is always getting ready to launch something "in the next months" My suggestion is get what you want now, and enjoy it.

The only new stuff on the horizon that i'm aware of are new Intel CPU's. I'm not aware of any new GPU's.
Since gaming is your primary concern, and GPU is the most important for gaming, i don't think it will make much of a difference if you buy now or wait a few months.
In General, because computer parts keep changing, you could wait forever if you have that wait for something better attitude. You'll never get a chance to enjoy your computer though
BTW, there are some cool back to school coupons available right now on alienware. I received an email on that this morning...$100 off Alienware, coupon code: 9KWLTPWLD1J533 (i think it expires tomorrow) -

I doubt there will be any new GPU's until the 2012 R4 refresh. The only updates I see happenign at any point in 2011 are the already-announced Intel Sandy Bridge CPU refresh with slightly higher clock speeds.

hi guys
is there m17x with 6970m cf?
cuz the m18x is too expensive -
only major change would be a new gpu wich wont be for a bit as amd just released the 6990 and nvidia the 580m not too long before that.
only new thing around the corner is the refeshed sandy bridge series
not sure when ivy bridge will come out but that be a wee bit.
only alienware laptop i reckon that be getting an update be the m18x but that will prolly happen with the refresh on the intel cpu.
in the end whatever u buy the day after its old already in this bizz -

How did you manage to get 2 6990m? Are clevo cards or dell? I am trying from the last 1 month to order an 6990m dell card with no success... I would highly appreciate if you will be able to help me on that. Thank you

I purchased from Phektan, an NBR member here, but at the moment doesn't look like he has any for sale. Others are now going through NBR member "Mythlogic" I'm using Clevo cards as they seem to work best.

Who knows, you could get lucky with a fault/problem and by the time you swap there's will be a better upgrade for you? I see a few threads where replacements were better than what people had bought?
Just don't try to scam them.. if nothing's wrong don't fuss and make an issue, it could cost you. -

Something else is always coming...no matter what you do, within months something better will come out. Just get what you want and dont worry about it...like the man said!!
Buy or wait...
