I have recently purchased my Alienware M17X-R4 from PowerNotebooks.com, because of their 3% discount and no sales tax they seemed like a good re-seller.

After purchase i was told that they "might" be installing the blu-ray reader and network card themselves. I do not know if i am too fond of this idea, i feel it makes my Alienware less official and i wish they would just have Alienware install them.

Plus i do not know how trusting i am of this company yet. I also fear that they might be installing other components that they are not telling me about, i have asked them to confirm with me what they will be installing themselves but have not gotten a answer yet.

So my question is: has anyone else purchased Alienware from PowerNotebooks.com? What was your experience with them? Am i just being paranoid about them?

Any input would be great, thanks.

PowerNotebooks have reps on these forums you can contact. They are a reputable company and can be trusted. The only reason they say that they install the components themselves is either Dell doesn't offer them or that they already have some models in stock and customize it themselves for their own customers as one cannot send their computers back to Dell to be modified unless there is something wrong with it.

Plus, half of the guys here on NBR have customized Alienwares. Why does it need to be "official"? I can probably bet that they guys at PowerNotebooks are much more professional in terms of installation and quality control than Dell. Don't worry you are in good hands.

Thanks a lot for your responses :)

I did hear that PowerNotebooks has a good reputation but could not find much info on them in regard to their Alienware systems, seems people mostly buy Sager's from them.

But i see now that i was just being paranoid. Thanks for the info guys! Now is the fun part waiting for my Alienware to arrive :)
