So are ES processor basically the same as the retail ones? I'm thinking about buying one since they're cheaper but afraid I might run into problems, will there be any? Any other info about them is welcome and appreciated ^_^

    Thanks in advance.

My benchmarks were run with ES CPUs. Well the 3DMark06 one was. 3DMark1 will be done sometime soon hopefully. But look at the benchmark thread. Most of the top scores were done with ES processors.

You won't run into problems, especially if you buy from a reputable seller. I've had half a dozen or so of them, and I have benchmarked them and pushed them extremely hard. Don't worry.

I can't seem to find the ES chips anywhere on the market anymore. Did they all pretty much sell out by now or are they lurking somewhere?

Probably just a search fail on my part (I've been searching, but poorly).

Ah. There's one. Makes me wish I had bought one when I saw it at 200$ though.

I know what you mean ...

Picked up my 940 for under AU$600. Look at them now!! Glad I jumped in when I did. I guess after all the talk about the ES XM CPUs on this forum, they became quite popular.

    Here's another 920XM ...

    I got my 940 from shirley ...

    I also have a 940xm (es).
My question, why are my core temp so different?
    Core 0.2 at full load about 85 ° C
    Core1.3 about 75 ° C, 10 ° C difference.
I have thermal paste applied several times, perhaps always wrong?
Or is it normal for the (ES) CPU?
With so many experts here on the forum who can answer me?
Sorry for my bad English, I hope you can read it

I've had the same issue. I've re-applied thermal paste many times (TX-4 and MX-4) and have had variances of 5 to 10 ° C between Core 0 and Core 3.

The best I have been able to achieve is a difference of 4 ° C between Core 0 and Core 3 and this was done by leaving the keyboard unscrewed and adjusting the CPU retention screws in small increments until the temps were about even across the Cores.

    core0 85°C
    core1 79°C
    core2 84°C
    core3 76°C

    Is it ok?

Those temps look OK to me. Without the retention clip mod, I don't think you'll be able to achieve significantly lower temps. Prior to re-pasting the 940, I was seeing temps over 100°C when running Prime95. I haven't attempted the retention clip mod as there are risks associated with it and I'm not prepared to risk cracking the main board and/or CPU. I'm not that wealthy! :D
