Hi guys,
I want to get a 6990M and install it in a m17x. Any sites where I can buy the card itself?

If you call up Dell, they offer to sell you the card. Just make sure you contact sales, not tech.
-
You can also contact member pkhetan, he's great to work with!
-
Is there not an extra grill + fan on 6990 R3's
-
There is a tiny fan hole added below the GPU. yes.
its for both the 6990 and the 580m./ -
You guys are giving the wrong information. Those cards are not sold separately. I am trying from the last 2 weeks to get one of the two without any success.
As a matter of fact, today when I spoke to a rep over the chat, she 'hanged' up the chat on me, though she asked me for my number to call me. After I have given her my cell, she cancelled the chat...
So far no success on getting any of the 2 cards from Dell. As a matter of fact, people have sold their systems with 6970m to order the new systems with 6990m!
You can get the clevo card GTX 580m from phketan, but nobody has tried that card in an R3... -
And another thing, I spoke to several tech at 'parts department', none of them are capable in giving a right price on the cards. For ATi some say $400, some 500, 650 and even 800. So it is all a confusion created in their system or they have no idea where they are working or what they do...

Not a good thing considering the quote for the GTX 460 is around $350 from Dell. So if you have a GTX 460, you can maybe wait a year and get the GTX 580 for a cheaper price, or you can do what everyone does - send it back/sell it for the newer model.
I may do the same thing, and I begged them just to send me the card at the POS (point of sale) price since I like my current R3. However I was told they can't sell it to me like that. -
That’s madness!!! For a card $1,200.00?! I think they try to push you to the limits to give up on trying getting it, or giving you an idea: for such a price, I should sell my current system and order a new one all over again! It’s all a game. And by the time we get the new system in our hands, we hardly use it for few months and ATi 7series + Nvidia 6 series will show up! What a challenge… Custom build notebooks should always give you the possibility of upgrading parts, especially when those parts are compatible with your current system.

Must be nice profit 3 times the price for half the performance of the desktop cards.
-
-
But what do you do, if the cards do not work in m17x R3? The cards are only tested in clevo systems...
-
I wonder if they offer a return policy if the cards don't work.
-
I do not think so. It is only the warranty for the card/s. If there is a problem with the card/s, they will replace them for a period of 6 months...
-
Since these cards are ordered from Clevo directly, they don't accept return for alienware non-compatibility, so if you order it will be on your own risk!
