I think my R3 has that known problem I've seen others with where certain frequencies will cause an annoying "buzzing" sound. For me, it only happens with certain types of music and voice audio.

Just to kind of narrow down what I'm dealing with here, since I've heard the design of the speakers in this model is a bit flawed, I'm curious to see if you guys hear anything weird in the following song. I've been using it to produce the buzzing noise (to determine what the problem is).

Vangelis - Memories of Green - YouTube

Put your speakers at 50% volume and listen especially at 0:59. At that point in the song I can feel the palmrest area vibrate a lot, especially on the left side. Pressing down on the palmrest seems to lessen the buzzing.

Yup, there's vibrating, but that's only cuz it's at 50% and it's kinda loud at 0:59. No buzzing like you mention though. I can play it at 100% and no buzzing. Perhaps I have defective speakers which aren't that loud though.. hmmmm... But then again, my replacement (the one I sent back) vibrated at past 30% volume just for simple rap songs that didn't ever buzz on this one.

Hmm, so I guess the vibration is normal, but there's something else wrong with mine that's causing the buzzing. Probably that piece of paper behind the grill I've heard about. That sucks because so far this is the ONLY issue I have with my system. Everything else is perfect.

Some people say use a toothpick or a paperclip and push it back or something like that. Or, you can try taking the lappy apart and gluing the paper properly into place.

Hmm, I don't wanna start messing around on the insides of such a new machine. Since I still have a few days left for my return period, maybe I'll return and try my luck with a replacement? You guys think it's worth it? I'm worried a replacement might have even more issues. That's why I want to see how common that buzzing sound is.

Anyone else have the problem? I think I'm gonna get it replaced. Spoke to Dell last night and they offered to replace the speakers but I think some of you guys had the speakers replaced and it didn't fix anything, right? Since the problem is a piece of paper and some glue, not the speakers. Anyway, I figured I'll gamble that the replacement will be ok, and if not, then I'll ask them to fix it. What a pain in the *** though.

Man, you guys were not kidding about Dell support. After about an hour and a half and being transferred five times, sometimes back and forth between tech. support and sales/returns, they're gonna let me return and re-order with discounts.

I've never done this before so I'm curious, what sort of discounts does one get as compensation for having to return and re-order? Are they gonna make me an offer or is there something I should request?

This is kind of a hard question to answer, because they offer different things to different people, and of course, this depends on who your csr is... I'm happy that you are able to reorder with discounts. Hopefully you can use the same ones as last time. If not, I'd ask for upgrade to NBD, and some free goodies like free upgrades or free backpack/sleeves/cases, etc.
