    Hey

I get the CAPS blinking at startup of my machine. It said it was a RAM problem so I bought new RAM and still same problem. I have tried all memory tests and everything so it has to be something else. The laptop runs just fine with no problems what so ever.

The Blu-ray drive also uses 5 minutes to boot up a cd/dvd I put in it. Something is wrong but I can't find out what. The blinking caps appeared after I opened the machine for the 5th time or something, but I didn't damage anything, I was beeing very careful. I can game for hours with no problems and very good temps.

I hope someone here can help me, I have had SO MUCH PROBLEMS with this laptop, it's amazing. Next time I want Dell warranty for sure.

"EDIT: disabled QuickBoot. I always have the summary option enabled. I don't like seeing the OEM boot logo and prefer the old school look

Anyway, with QuickBoot disabled I also see the behavior you mentioned. There is nothing wrong. Just leave quickboot enabled. "

Batboy wrote that. So does this mean my laptop is OK?

"I actually just got off the phone with an Alienware tech, and he confirms that their M17x machine has exactly the same problem as mine.
Whenever QuickBoot is disabled, Caps lock will flash.
And now you confirm it too!"

I'll just have quickboot enabled then!

Anyone know how I can fix my blu-ray problem too? :)

I'm not very knowledgeable on drives.
Uninstall/reinstall it. You could also make sure the firmware is up to date, if that's even applicable for troubleshooting anymore. If the laser lens is misaligned, there's nothing you can do about it. Does it take 5 minutes to load any type of media, or just certain stuff?

I have tried a game dvd and a blu-ray dvd. I slide the dvd in and it goes in as normal, then it makes the normal sounds as when it starts to load the dvd, then it just stops. and 5 minutes later, I hear it starts working and it pops up on the laptop. When I press the touch botton thing on the control panel to try to get the dvd out while it's "stuck" for those 5 mins. The whole laptop freezes for 20 secs, can't move the mouse or nothing. I tried uninstalling drivers etc still no fix. After the 5 mins I can easely get it out with the touch botton. If I put the same dvd back in it starts right away, but if I change the dvd I have to wait another 5 mins.

Hmmm. Uninstall it in the Device Manager then shut down your laptop. Pull the connector on the CMOS battery and then hold the power button down for about 30 seconds. Plug the CMOS battery connector back in and restart. Windows will see the drive and install it. This recently solved a big problem I was having with my new Intel Ultimate 6300 card. See if that helps.

Thanks but didn't work, the blu-ray drive still uses 5 minutes to load up every dvd I throw at it,seems like the computer is working like crazy these 5 minutes and it freezes for 30 seconds when I try to get the dvd out during these 5 minutes...

Yes, your lappie is ok. This is just a 'pfft' bug in the BIOS. Shouldn't be like this, but it is. In any event, Quickboot should be enabled. Much faster.

On the BD Drive issue, is this the stock BD drive which shipped with your system or did you upgrade yourself? If its an aftermarket install, the drive may have issues. If its the stock drive, you can check the support site to see if Dell has issued a F/W update for the drive or you can call Support and have them dispatch out a new drive with a tech if you need a tech to install.

If you are out of warranty, then you're only choice would be to pick up another BD drive - fairly cheap these days. Check for a F/W update first...
