It has just started happening today, but very soon after turning the laptop on the CPU sounds like it's...rattling sound. There is a lot of vibration coming from it.

I've never opened up my rig before, would this be the time to open it up and see if something needs to be reseated or tightened?

I wouldn't think your CPU would be rattling if you can manage to power your rig up. I would think it's either a fan or a HDD that's either come loose or is going bad. It's always a good idea to open it up and clean it out. Never hurts to check things out. There is a manual you can download online and use for reference to take it apart.

Lens right, theres no moving parts on a CPU chip. Probably a fan or the HDD

I have a feeling it's the HDD. Been having weird problems when I turn on the laptop and it did a system clean yesterday when i restarted.

I think I have the same problem. It comes on like a fast moving clicking not super loud. It comes on and off it Random and it seems to happen while searching the websites. Not Game Related. I do blow out the dust and every 4 Months I open the laptop up to clean the vents.

Blue, it's prolly a bad hdd. I've had several laptop drives fail on me before, not on the m17x but on earlier laptops I've had. Shortly after making that noise they fail. I would back up ALL important data and call aw and tell them you suspect a hdd failure. They will prolly have you do a ton of testing and a clean install of the os, hence the back up.

Ya they will send a new Hard drive. A trick to do is Install windows and see if the sounds come back on the new hard drive. That will give you a good idea if it the hard drive or one of the fans. I basicly did the same thing Move my Raided hard drives out and installed a SSD drive and still have random sounds comming from the Fans. Headphones pritty much told me it was not the speakers. Which is another area to look at.
