So like many of us here i assume have been playing guild wars 2 and as you know its very GPU and CPU intensive now i have a 580m which should render around 30-45 frames but it dosent i get about ehh 25 in max settings. but i have a i7 2630QM which hurts me fps wise i think at-least in my eyes. im thinking about upgrading to a i7 2720 or a 2820 but then i looked at the ivy bridge 3610QM it is cheaper then all the previous ones and faster. so my questions are

    1. should i even upgrade or is the fps im getting going to be about it

    2. if i do upgrade is it possible to go ivy bridge with the same mobo

    3. if i cant go ivy bridge what would be then next best budget CPU?

I don't think you'll be able to go to Ivybridge in your R3 as I'm pretty sure they use a different socket or maybe it's a different chipset.
The absolute best I think is the 2960 but that's big money, 2920 is next but still expensive. 2860 or 2760 are your next options..........there is at least one 2860 for sale in the Marketplace as I type this, and probably one or two 2760's as well.

You won't be able to use an Ivy Bridge CPU on the R3. Only sandy bridge CPUs work on the R3's chipset. Before you go plunking down major cash on a new processor, tell us what GPU you are using, drivers it is running, and how much memory your R3 has.

It could be a GPU throttling issue seeing as how the 580M is infamous for that. As for a CPU upgrade i'd say price/performance wise a 2760 would be your best bet. If you have money to burn you can't go wrong with an extreme CPU such as a 2920 or a 2960 (they're both unlocked and preform generally the same, but the 2960 usually has a higher overclocking potential). Is Guild Wars 2 the only game you experience poor performance in?

well what had happened was i did the throttling fix with the new Vbios that only gave me worse FPS in games causing random FPS drops so 2 weeks ago i went back to the newest Vbios and i no longer get fps drops and i get better fps over all but i guess my question is at ultra settings what should my fps be in guild wars 2 because nothing may be wrong
