I have a 3720QM, which is supposed to hit 4.0 GHZ on a single core thread via Intel XTU. I bumped it up to 40/39/38/38. This issue never used to happen, but now under load, the computer will shut off. Its not a graphcis load problem. If I leave it at stock multipliers, the issue does not happen. My 7970M is clocked at 975/1400, at 1.05V. Under load, the system will just shut off. Why? Temperatures are fine.

Did you have it set up like that before the mobo replacement? With the same voltages?

I did not have a mobo replacement, I only had the video card replaced (which works WONDERFULLY now, thanks!). The problem happened in the past, but it is happening more frequently now. I used to have my previous 7970M undervolted so the problem almost never happened. The new 7970M has a locked vBIOS, so I cannot reduce voltages (from 1.05V to 0.975V), so it is becoming a frequent problem. I have to turn down the multipliers on the CPU to prevent it from happening. I don't know if it is CPU instability or just system draw instability. All I know is one of the following happens:
    1. Shuts off entirely
    2. Reboots without warning
    3. BSODs and hangs.

It could be your power brick slowly not being able to supply as much power any more or the CPU voltages not set right.

I don't have control over the CPU voltages, I don't know if its the bios/efi that controls that or the CPU itself. Are power bricks covered under warranty?

No control with CPU voltages on Ivy Bridge... Only haswell has it.. Power brick covered in warranty so ask for replacement... I had to have mine replaced...
