There has been speak of 3 pipe CPU heatsinks and it is driving me insane. Does anyone actually have a 3 pipe CPU (not GPU) heatsink installed? Remember NOT the GPU heatsink but the CPU one. Need to know whether one exists or not :D Also please post an image of it.

Remember is it the bottom left one in this picture, the right one is the GPU. We can to know whether you have a 3 pipe heatsink on the CPU one on the left. This image shows 2 for the CPu and 3 for the GPU:

I know that on the M18x, only the 2920xm and the 2960xm has one, really curious what the result is with the M17x R3 is.

a picture of a 3 pipe heatsink would be nice.

especially since there would also be need of a new cpu-fan cause the old one wouldnt fit in.

Really? I thought the XM chips came with a dual piped HS vs. the single piped one with the other CPUs... and interestingly the r3 always comes with a dual piped heatsink, at least in the pics I've seen.

Wow! Cool stuff, thanks! I just remember how all the user who bought a 2920xm ES were looking to buy the dual piped heatsink... never realised that there's now one with 3 heatpipes.

well...they have a 3 heat pipe cooler now for the m17x R3...which i would love to get my hands on. Looks like some of the forum members from the UK have them. I also stumbled onto a UK website that was selling a 3 pipe CPU heatsink for the R3, but unfortunately, at the time, i didn't think anything of it and i have not been able to find that website again. I have been searching for it ever since

My R3 came with a 2820qm with a two-pipe HS. It would take some major rearranging to find space for a third pipe, which seems unlikely, but I'd love to have one if they exist. These 2920xm's need all the cooling help available.

So who (2 voters) other than len888 claims to have one?

But you all do realize that a 3-Pipe sink doesn't necessarily have an increased heat flow?
If a new revision of the heat sink just from another manufacturer has 3 slightly smaller pipes its all the same.
The "performance" is only dependent on the added cross sectional area of the individual pipes (and material of course^^)

True, but I'd still love to see one and check out the pipes. Unfortunately, I suspect that some folks are confusing the GPU heatsink with the CPU HS. Time will tell. :)

I guess a better question would be " how many heatpipes do you have on your GPU heatsink and how many on the CPU heatsink?".
There won't be any room for confusion anymore this way.

The way it is on the image the one on the left is the CPU heatsink(two pipes, right above RAM slots) and the right one is the GPU heatsink (3 pipes), notice the GPU underneath?

Widezu, maybe provide a pic of where the CPU is so that some people don't confuse the GPU with the CPU pipes

For people that don't know, with the computer on its front, with the battery up at the top, the CPU is located bottom left on the m17x R3

Should have the pole votes public. Then you could evaluate the validity of the yes votes based upon their reputation. As it is, it kinda a white unicorn, just a myth.

I will go on the record that i came across a website in my surfing that had a 3 pipe heatsink labelled "Alienware M17x R3 CPu Heatsink" or something to that affect. i saw it with my own eyes. Whether or not it was mislabelled is a different discussion.

My issue is that i haven't been able to find that website again. A search in my cache didn't come up with anything. It was a website in the UK

So its like i found the garden of eden but i've since lost the map.

I wonder if a mods can make the polls public. I had that option I think but I didn't select it.
