    When I receive my m17x-r3 (in my sig), will I be able to plug in an external 3D monitor into it via hdmi?

    I'm thinking about getting the alienware 3D monitor.

    I can't think of any reason it would not work. Did your m17x came with the 3d kit?

    Or until you get the Nvidia kit, use the cheapo red\cyan glasses for fun.

    Instead of repeating posts from before, let me refer you to this link...

    =================

    Wait a minute! You posted in that forum.

    I guess it's better to hear from someone who may have actually done it. I am about as close to speculation as you can get.

    As I stated in the other thread, I have one of two possible miniport to DVI adapter and I have the my AW2310 monitor, but I don't have the R3 yet. I understand the concern. I asked both my sales rep and tech support. Both gave me the same answer that I would be able to pipe 3d through the adapter cable to my AW2310 monitor at 120 Hz. However, these are the exact same people who also told me that Optimus would work with my 3D system.

    Details as we know them at the moment:

    The monitor will ONLY accept the 3D signal at 120 Hz through the DVI port. The R3 does not have a native DVI port, but it does have a VGA port and an HDMI 1.4 port. We know it won't pass this signal through the VGA port nor will it do it through the HDMI 1.4 port. The R3 also has a mini displayport. Dell sells a mini displayport to DVI adapter. The mini displayport can also be patched to another VGA or HDMI port besides the DVI port. We don't know if this signal will be routed as such through the mini displayport using the DVI adapter.

    FYI:
    The AW2310 does NOT have a VGA port. It does have a HDMI port and obviously a DVI port.
