I was wondering if my warranty is upgradable. I got the basic 1 year warranty and would like to be safe then sorry and upgrade to a 3 or 4 year basic or advance warranty. Can I upgrade? I bought my M17x on the EPP program would that make a difference? And How much would it cost to upgrade?

    Thanks

Yes you can but I believe you have to do it before the warranty expires.

most Countries do allow warranty extensions, some allow upgrades.

    USA your OK for both.

As for price - it varies on type of warranty and length

If you plan on keeping the laptop then you should consider the extended warranty.

I just got mine so I have more than enough time before my current warranty expires.

Just got a letter in the mail from dell about it. lol. it will cost a little over $500 to ad 3 years to my current warranty. Is that a bad deal? Am I better of buying insurance that covers accidental damage on all my electronics with a $25 deductible and $6000 of coverage for about $150 a year?

Where would you get that warranty coverage? Who offers accidental electronics coverage?

Its not exactly an electronics specific insurance, but electronics is what its meant to cover. Its an insurance company recommended by my college. Its called National Student Services, Inc. Ive heard they are a good company, their BBB rating is an A.

I have to look into such insurances. It might come out cheaper than Dell's... Maybe even my home insurance offers such things...

The problem with those is the little things. If you call dell right now and complain that a rubber foot fell off, they will replace a foot. If a button feels crunchy and sticky like my tab key would, dell will replace it. I doubt you will be so lucky with a third party.

I know that, but I just want some kind of safety net just in case something happens, and it also covers theft dell doesn't. lol

Dell offers accidential damage warranties on the upper tires of the warranty. I purchased an extended 3 year hardware and 3 year accidential damage warranty for around $600. That covers dropping, water spill etc. anything that goes wrong. I think it well worth the piece of mind to have that much in initial cost covered.
Keep in mind that your 1 year warranty is only good for hardware problems, stemming into software. The software is still a iffy situation with Dell.

    Just my thoughts.

Right now I cant afford $600 dollars. I'll stick to insurance and if worst happens all i have to pay out of pocket is $25.
