    Hi Friends from Forum Notebook..
I want to Upgrade my M17x r2 HDD...
and i found that someone has a HDD like this Intel 160GB X-25 & 1TB WD
    Wow...
How can he do it ?
I mean, Alienware m17x R2 have only two HDD which can put either (2x500) or (2 x 320 ) or intel 160 SSD.
So how can he have HDD like this : Intel 160GB X-25 & 1TB WD
What i know is there isnt any HDD that have capacity about 1TB except combining two HDD (2X500 GB) to get 1 TB.

But maybe i was wrong, so is there really have a HDD THAT HAVE capacity about 1 TB ???

You would have to buy it and install it yourself. Most people into speed buy the SSD and than use HDD for pictures and video. HDD is too slow for my taste.

Keep in mind that the WD 1TB is a 12.5mm height drive, not the normal 9.5mm. You can make it fit in the second slot but you have to break off the plastic retaining tab that serves as a retaining clip for the drive. A few people have done this and they say it works without a problem, but you are making a mod to the system that can't be undone. I'm not trying to disuade you from doing this, just want to make sure you are aware.

What you can do if you don't need the optical drive, is remove the optical drive, and put in an HDD optical drive case/caddy. There is a thread on it somewhere in the M15x section I believe, but it'll work with the M17x. You can have 160GB SSD RAID 0 + 1TB HDD storage :D If you get the right caddy it will accomodate the 12.5 drive easy.

Here is the link, found it

    Wew...
Thanks for remind me about that...
    i almost forgot about it...
Yeah, it's a little risk to break off the plastic...

Maybe i should reconsidered about changing it to WD 1 TB...
Maybe i should wait for the smaller size of hard driver...

    Thank You for remind me...
    :)

    Wow...
    Nice idea...
But i'm afraid that i'm still using the optical drive for burning some college's project onto the dvd...
So, i cant remove the optical drive cause i need it...
so i guess i just use an external HDD until there's a smaller size of the WD 1 TB HDD...

But, its really a great idea (put a HDD in optical drive case)...
    Thank You very much...

You think that 1TB SSD would be nice? Check out the PCI-e OCZ Z-drive.

1TB total data, from 4 SSDs on the one chip set into RAID 0.

    800MB/s read, 750MB/s write. Who needs SATA3? :p

Granted it's a little pricey though, and it won't fit into the laptop.

On topic... You can get 750GB hard drives for laptops that have a standard drive height. You can also get 640GB hard drives at a 7200RPM speed in the standard laptop size as well.
