The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

Can someone explain to me why the M17x R3 shares the same forum as the R1 & R2?

I believe that the R1 & R2 are very similar and can share parts.
The R3 on the other hand is a completely different machine with it's on set of parts. I think it would benefit everyone(especially new members/guest) if they were seperated.

I agree with you on this one. There should be different sub-forums for each machine. I get a bit irritated by the dying R1/R2 Threads and the rising R3 threads :D

Maybe you should try to read the name of the forum again...

the r3 should not be in the same forum as the r2. they are two TOTALLY different machines.

the M17x forums will soon be less cluttered as the R1 and R2 die out replaced by the latest iteration of the M17x the R3

very soon there will be a whole new subforum created called the M18x a totally new beast with little in common with the R1 or R2, more in common with the R3actually - sharing many of the same features including cpu - ports - 3D - memory capacity - buses - architecture in fact they most likely share the same motherboard the very heart of the machine

incidently I would gladly accept an exclusive R3 forum - as the latest technology has little in common with the R1/R2 obsolete models

I think that NBR should remove all discussions of old and outdated technologies the R1 and R2 represent

I prefer the R1/R2 architecture myself, if i was to choose between an R2 and an R3 i would take the R2. Just because you bought your machine later than us R1/R2 users or you have the money to replace your Alienware every year doesn't make you any better, man , grow up already 8-|

And i think you should go **** yourself :)

Yup this thread is going to get closed soon. :D

Don`t really understand why R3s shouldn`t share forum with R1s/R2s though. They are all M17x. If you should blame anyone for this, you have to ask Alienware why they named it M17x...

    Closed in 3...2...1...

Let me get this straight. The m17x r1 is a 17in laptop by alienware. The m17x r2 is a 17in laptop by alienware. The m17x r3 is a 17in by alienware. hmm I do see a problem. Maybe because r3 has sb? no, because r1 has something different than r2. Just because the new kid on the block lost weight doesn't mean we have to banish him. Plus, whether you like it or not, r1/r2 are EOL, and eventually discussion will be dominated by r3/r4/r5
