There's no USB 4.0 at the moment. USB 3.0 is new enough that most new laptops might have a single 3.0 port, but that's about it.

The only way to get USB 3.0 on a M17x at the moment is by buying a USB ExpressCard. This plugs into the expansion bay just under the DVD slot, and will give you a pair of 3.0 sockets.

IMO, all PC makers should replace all USB 2.0 ports with the USB 3.0 ports since it is backward compatible.

The real question is when will Alienware machines get USB 3.0 ports?

Will we need to wait for the next release, m17x-R3, or does Alienware perform in-place model upgrade of components?

R2 is using USB 2.0 ports. You can see this on the m17x website by selecting the Tech Specs tab.

it wouldn't surprise me, since LP is backwards compatible with USB. USB3 was never designed as a permanent specification, just a gap between 2.0 and LP.

word, I've got my USB 5.0+ board right next to me, just too lazy to whip out the heatgun and superglue.

I guess you've never heard of USB 4.0 and 5.0...
