I have been talking to a Dell rep about getting this upgrade...I currently have the 1080p R4 with the 7970m, thinking about getting the 3D Screen, and the 680m.

Is this possible? I asked him if the mobo would need to be replaced, and he said no...But I figured I would come on NBR to ask you guys.

Yes it is possible, but going to be very very very expensive. You don't need a new mobo, but considering the cost of a 680m from dell is over $1000 and a standard 1080p screen from them is $700 (or used to be) let alone a 3d one. your probably better off trying to sell your current rig and buy a new one.

The only thing you would need would be the screen, and the new BIOS version that will be released later this week which will fix some bugs with 3D support. (Also a Nvidia card if you ordered AMD)

    Hope this helps!

Please, please, please tell me this will make there support to have a 680M recognized as a 3D capible card in the r3.

I would love Alienware for all of eternity... not like I don't already though. :)

I appreciate the news of this update greatly, and I am quite certain there are many others who do as well.

    Thanks!

I have an Alienware M17X R4 with 1600 x 900 60hz WLED also have 2GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GTX 660m 3d capable Graphics card. Can I upgrade my screen to 1920 x 1080 120hz 3d by just pluging in a new screen? Or is there more to it than that?

Just make sure its an m17x r4 screen and not an r3 one. I don't think the two of them are Interchangeable. :(.
