so i just installed windows 7 on my new ssd, previously i had 2 hard drives in raid 0, so i removed the primary one for the ssd. Now after installing windows, in disk management i see Disk 0 (SSD) and Disk 1 with 900gb unallocated space, since the primary disk 0 raid hd is no longer present it should be 450 gb not 900. Also when I try to create a volume, it is greyed out. When installing my ssd, i switched to ACHI in bios.

So I guess my question is, how can i gain access to my 2nd hard drive. I am unable to use it because windows thinks it is still in RAID and it is also greyed out. Can't even volume nor partition it. I need this hard drive as storage and am having a hard time getting it to work again.

in windows disk management it shows:

    disk 0 (My new SSD)
    basic
    119.92gb
    online

disk 1 (an extra hard drive I chose to keep for storage by splitting raid 0)
    unknown
931.52gb ( should be half of it since the other 500gb hdd is not present anymore)
    not initialized

    thanks!

I never use RAID on my M17x before but I think what you can try is switch back to RAID mode, restart the laptop and press Ctrl + I to enter RAID setup. You may be able to remove the setup.

what if it BSOD's since I changed raid to ACHI when i installed the ssd?

would i have to switch to achi since I no longer use raid?

After you undo the RAID setup ( if you can ), just switch back to AHCI. But you never have to switch it to AHCI in 1st place. I just leave my SSD run in RAID, for the sake of simplicity.
