Guys, I flashed the new A05 BIOS when it released on my M17x R4. I noticed they released another A05 BIOS on 01/08. I flashed that as well. Everything working to spec, except that I'm unable to alter my screen brightness! It seems to be stuck on the max (which isn't that much, really) and I'm unable to reduce it. Any advise? Should I try and reflash the BIOS once again, see if that works? Also, I flashed the file with Enduro OFF.

the A05 bios was released for addressing nvidia related issues on 3D units and the ability to overclock the 680m

you should probably flash back to the A04 bios if you're having problems. this update doesn't apply to your spec.

    Check your bios setting.

Reinstall the GPU driver. and Alienware OSD.---- TRY THIS FIRST.

I think I told you somewhere above there is no need to reflash since the file is the same. Too compulsive huh...hmmm

Well you can do one thing. Download A04 and reflash it. After that if AO5 appears for your service tag...download it and try again.

But remember...2 people who have AMD GPU had reported bricking on applying A05. I dont know if this is related or they were isolated cases.

I have not seen AMD GPU owners commenting about the success on their machines.

However at the same time..they did not release this Bios exclusively for those with 3d or Nvidia. The changes seem to be directed for Nvidia but it was never state to be exclusive.

In case you are reflashing to A05 ensure you are downloading based on your service tag just to be on the safe side legally. Ensure its the one dated August.

Lastly if misfortune strikes...and comp is dead. Just tell em it died. Nothing more. Not a word about bios.

I never had the A05 BIOS. I initially updated from the A02 to the A05 BIOS. In any case, the issue seems to have resolved itself after the restart! It's still sporadic.. I'll try the reflash.
