    hey all,

I have an M17xR2 with a Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW) and it wont eject. When I click on "computer" it shows me the drive icon but not the disc inside it (BFBC2).

I've tried edjecting from BIOS and that doesnt work.

    Any ideas?

you seem to have a problem with your OSD (on screen display). to fix this, I believe you need to reformat, (as you must install things in a spasific order), but dont quote me on that. if you dont want to, you can try right clicking the disc drive in "My Computer" and hit "Eject".

you can also use device manager to see if the drive is working properly.

may also want to contact an AW tech to remotly access your M17x to see if it is a hardware problem. if it is, they should send one to you no problem. you may even request a tech to come over and install it for you.

    Best of luck to ya'.

    yeah I tried all that.

I recently updated the BIOS to A08 so I am wondering if that has anything to do with it? When I restart the system I can see the BFBC2 icon on the drive - it when I hit eject it all goes wrong.

have you tried ejecting the CD from within Windows > right click on CD Drive from my computer and select eject

    Or try a reset

remove battery, AC power, Hold down the power button for 30 seconds and put everything back and boot up - try again to eject.

I had the same problem with my bluray drive on my R1 and they had to replace the drive. Now it works perfectly.

Yeah I think its cooked - Alienware are sending an engineer to me tomorrow with a new drive.

I wonder did the new BIOS A08 have anything to do with it? I've downgraded to A07 and its still knackered :(

hhmmmmm - its just started working again for no reason?

I think I will ask the engineer to replace the drive anyway. WEIRD
