    Hello everyone,

I own a M17x R3 and I was hoping to upgrade some of its components so I decided to call DELL support. The technician I had on the phone told me that it wasn't possible to change anything on my computer. Here's the spec of my computer as purchased:

    213-13053 Processor : Intel Core i7 Processor 2630QM (2.00Ghz, 6MB, 4C) 1
    370-15259 Memory : 4096MB (2x2048) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel 1
    400-22273 Hard Drive: 320GB (7,200rpm) SATA Hard Drive 1
    490-13155 Graphics : 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M 1

I also have an Intel HD family card which sucks..anyway I really wanted to upgrade my GPU to a better one, such as the 660M but was told there is no way to do so and that I already own the best card for my computer. I was also told that it wasn't possible to migrate to a SSD ... I don't really know much about computer but I find hard to believe that what he said is true as I saw a few posts from different M17 users that somehow could change their GPUs..no specification though.

I'd really appreciate it if you could enlight me.. thank you

of course u can upgrade ur gpu, but they dont want u to do that. how are they gonna make money if u dont buy from them?...

theres someone in the forums that put a 780m on a m17x r3, so yes u can upgrade ur gpu, assuming u know how to do it and ur confident enough to do it.

The thing is I did ask as in I was going to make them do it, and purchase it from them. Plus, I did look online and I couldn't find any reseller for mobile GPUs..

they are not gonna do it for you. your gonna have to do it yourself or find someone else to do it.

if u are looking for a mobile gpu, ebay would be our best bet. its not gonna be cheap and dont expect same performance as the desktop version.

Pretty much everything in your laptop is upgradeable... CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD, etc... Ram and HDD are the easiest and cheapest upgrades. CPU and GPU aren't particularly difficult but if you've never done you'll probably want to follow a guide or youtube tutorial. If you do a forum search here there is hundreds of articles about upgrade-ability from simple stuff to what's at all possible in any way.

Indeed to the point where it turns into a new.machine. feel free to ask about anything specific.

You can upgrade it on your own to anything above the 580m but the latest officially supported card for your PC is that one. I've seen some success stories with the latest ones and you can easily get them on Amazon or eBay.
