i returned my first R3 long after the 21 day period, but i used the sandybridge recall as an excuse....full credit back on a new purchase and they waived restocking fee.
-
What exactly did you say via sandy bridge-wise?
-
I got mine Jan 31
Returned it April 11 for refund of original purchase price - but this was at the suggestion of my rep. -
Full price eh? If you paid by cc, how long did it take for the money to show up in the cc again?
-
i keep reading the M18x has an aluminum body,,Does the M17x R3 have a plastic body?
-
They called me back, the lady said they won't give me a refund and money towards the M18X but I've told her to direct me to the manager so I can talk to him myself, instead of having a messenger do it for me.
To anyone who got a refund after the 21 days was up, what was said? I really need your help! -
If you accept it you need to get an RMA number, you can NOT send it back after being accepted.
-
need someone to help me out with this.
-
Yeah was reading Dell's policy and saw that RMA number, can you tell me exactly what to do? I just call Dell, get an RMA number and then send the R3 back?
-
Basically, yup.
-
Tell them you have waited long enough to get your motherboard replaced and Dell still has not done anything about it, and tell them you want to send it back.
-
ok cool, thanks
-
She said she'll get the manager to call me again cause he's in a meeting. Since I ordered the first day the R3 was re-released, and came a week later it's def. passed 21 days, but I told her I could of returned it by day 20 or so but Dell support was giving me so many pushbacks on troubleshooting and support for my laptop that it just passed the 21 day limit.
-
If there's an issue, you should be able to send it back - flex your warranty (I read every word of it aloud to the rep after he told me they would not be addressing my issues).
If you just want to send it back because you want to buy something else - well, that's not covered by the warranty, is it?
mobo thing doesn't apply since you're batch2 of r3 -
mobo?
and yes, id like to send this laptop back for a refund cause of all the problems just to save up for the M18X. -
I didn't think about the board issue =/ Forgot you were getting a new board.
-
Motherboard.
chipset revision.
Intel recall.
Considering you have a 2nd batch r3, you are not affected by it, so that is not a valid excuse. -
then i'd cross the sandy bridge out of the question and just go with my original idea and see what happens.
-
Not once in this thread have you mentioned you have problems with your R3. I've been watching this thread out of amusement and curiosity, but now the mood of it has changed. Now you're just trying to manipulate the system cause you're spoiled and you messed up. If you're so unhappy with the system, stop wasting Dell's time and sell the frickin thing. You messed up, deal with it like an adult.
-
But if you look in other threads, i've complained about video card problems and other issues as well. That's why I might want to consider either returning it for the same R3, or put in a little extra cash for the M18X.
-
Well, either way, if you don't manage the return (which honestly, I think is crappy Dell only gives you 21 days) I really think you can sell your system privately at absolutely no loss. Did you get a decent price on it?
-
Here's the response I got from the manager. When the M18X comes out, I can return my M17X R3, use the money I used to buy the R3 and put it towards the M18X.
-
Insane, how long past the return date are you?
-
Only like 10 days or so. But im glad I actually got a real response from the manager over there at the Nashville AW support.

A med student will be able to afford 100 M18x within a year when he graduated. So $$$ is not an issue
He's tall, do weight-lifting. So weight and size is not an issue
He's gonna do heavy gaming, Blu-ray movies etc... Valid arguments for M18x.
Besides all that, he's getting better material (supposedly better build), better speakers and bunch of other things with M18x.
So M18x FTW!!!
There is nothing wrong with waiting for M18x when it is ALREADY around the corner. It has nothing to do with "if you keep waiting you will wait forever" argument.
And no matter how powerful M17xR3 is as owners are justifying, M18x will be MOAR powerful (theorectically of course). -
I might consider getting the 18x and selling off my 17x
-
In the same boat, ordered a MX17r3, gets delivered next week.
The only thing that would interest me is the bigger screen, it would be used for playing games but not interested in Dual GPUs, just way to much heat.
The other thing I should mention regarding RMAs, thing is you can wait up til 7 days to send your laptop back AFTER you have setup to return your laptop, key is to be within the return policy return dates.
If you do not like the MX18 once it is released, you always have the option to keep your MX17 and cancel the return. -
Same, the only reason I would get the 18x is for the larger screen. I'll wait however, and probably get it when it's m18x r3 haha.
-
Might be of interest to other people according to a personal contact in Dell
GPU options:
2x AMD 6970M (CrossFireX)
2x NVIDIA GTX 460M (SLI)
2x NVIDIA GTX 485M (SLI) -
I was under the assumption that there would also be an option for a single GTX 460m? Or are these in addition to that.
-
I guess all us med students are tall and powerful lol. And yeah, there's always that "defending my purchase" syndrome that happens when something bigger and flashier is released.
The M18x based on specs and build quality blows away the M17x-R3 and M17x-R2.
-
Just in case anything is pulled off at the last second, I emailed the Manager at the Nashville center for Alienware asking him to email me back with a confirmation that he will indeed take my R3 and put the money towards the M18X just to make sure everything is 100%.
-
Haha, I don't make the big bucks for another 10 years since I'll have to repay the loans for room and board. But I saved for a ~$3200 laptop in high school for college, which has been accumulating interest, since I never got that laptop because schools pretty much gave me loaners (Macbook Pro at my lab, Dell here).
I just want to use it for my summer internship in New York, where I won't have the services of my laptop and will be sharing a cramped room where I can almost touch two walls with my wingspan. So they better get it out by June, lol.
I just want something better than the 460m and can still do Blu-Ray 3D. That was the only thing keeping me from the m17x. I expect a next generation laptop to field a better GPU that a previous generation laptop doesn't. That's not it with the 460m. Didn't like the loss of the RGBLED either.
Just the Orthopaedic surgeons, lol. Though that specialty isn't on my top list. As long as it plays the games I have now (SW:FUII, Crysis 2, Mass Effect 2, COD) and plays the Blu-Rays I have (Tron Legacy 3d), I'm happy. -
LOLZ. Yes cancel so we can get our replacements as well.
-
optional factory overclocked extreme cpu, sounds interesting

Evo X or M18x......hmmm.....I'm kinda in the same boat.....I'm probably gonna go M18x and buy my car later this year. I am on a/my PC more than I get to drive
That's sweet that they offered you 100.00 discount to keep a system you haven't even received yet. There must be a huge markup on the M17x R3. -
Lets just hope the announcement from AW next tuesday is about the M18X, haha.
-
If anyone is calling the nashville number, one of the managers isn't there until probably Sudnay. I just had an agent talk to his supervisor and said what the manager told me seems odd. This is what I hate about Support, there's always different views. :\ - Hope the manager can pull this off and stick to his word.

Has anyone gotten word(Dell/AW CSR) when the ordering for the M18x will go live? I'm tired of all the R2 vs R3 trolls in every thread trying to justify their purchase. I'm ready to take the plunge and go M18x
-

That does indeed sound interesting

This thread has drifted off topic.
If you recently ordered and want to cancel (for whatever reason), you need to contact sales and discuss. Nobody here can tell you how this will work - its up to you and the rep to discuss. There may be a fee involved, there may not. In most areas you have 21-days from the date of the invoice to return the system (for any reason). Some areas its 30 days. Again, call sales and discuss. If you wait beyond the 21 or 30 day period, you can write off being able to return - not going to happen.
Review the terms of sale as posted on the Dell site. TOS cover cancelling an order and return.
Cancel the R3 and order the M18 on the 19th?
