Just ordered up a refurb (not Outlet) M17x R2 with the following specs:
940XM
8GB DDR3 (doesn't matter because I have 2x8gb kits sitting waiting anyway)
256GB Samsung SSD
X-Fire 5870
1200p RGB LED
DVD Burner (probably going to order the bluray reader separate)
1 year NBD warranty
Grand total...$4200'ish...yea right![]()
That is the cost brand new @ AW right now
Refurb cost was.................brace yourself.................
$2899, W/O tax. Almost $1300 difference, the processor ALONE would have been $1300![]()
Hope I am making the good choice on this. The only thing I am wondering:
It's under manufacture warranty, can I upgrade to Advanced (this one has accidental...)
-
You can call dell and ask for quotes on upgrading warranty.
It is cheapest when you order it with the laptop, but they do allow you to upgrade the warranty.
Try giving them a call. -
Whoa man, that is one screaming laptop
As a standard from ebay , you get less than 1 year warranty. Most people upgrade to 3 year NBD (next Business Day). You can get accidental if you can afford it! -
That is a great price you simply cannot go wrong with an r2 with those specs!

Yeah dude, if that's an OEM 940XM, you made an absolute killing. All of those chips perform nicely, so not bad dude. It will be a screamer.

That makes no sense. It sounds too good to be true it usually is but good luck I guess. There will be a flaw.
-
The guy sells tons of Alienware Notebooks so I don't see an issue. And it comes with NBD support so why should I care...
I can have the tech just come to my office and work on it if needed, advantages of being your own boss -
That is one killer deal, did you get it on Ebay?
-
Yes I did .
-
SOAB.
The guy just emailed me back and said he might actually be OOS on these.
If this is the case I am *DONE* attempting to buy a new laptop. -

Can we get like a name? I wouldn't mind checking it out.
-
laptoptree on ebay and .com for their webstore.
-
Ouch that sucks
You can try the Dell outlet store, they have some good laptops now and then. -
-
OK. 100% CONFIRMED.
I am cancelling with Dell. I reordered the R3 from a guy on eBay that had one NiB...slightly HIGHER than I wanted to pay but that's OK. I am getting what I originally wanted. I am having him overnight it to me. Paid a bit of a premium too but it came stock with 16GB RAM and a 750GB HD, all the other specs are the same, 2820, GTX 460 w/ 120hz bla bla
Oh the total was $3038...Yea, I know =/
Ironic thing is I offered Mandrake his invoice cost (would have sent him extra too) for his. -
So you are buying an r3 from ebay... and now you have to mail it back to dell for the fix?? might as well have him mail it directly to dell when you pay for it? That ram must be expensive i have 2820,460,120hz,bluray,256ssd,6300i,2years advance for $2800.
-
Who is mailing it back? They are replacing all the boards onsite.

I have a brand new R3 sitting here, I don't know what to do, I was told to wait till Monday (originally Friday) for a response if I would be getting a replacement unit, not a replacement mobo.
I don't like the fact that I bought something brand new and now I have to get it fixed?? Maybe I'm just being picky but that's how I feel.
If anybody is interested and wants one right away I'll sell mine at invoice cost. PM me for specs -
jx. use yours for 30 days and mail it back the last day. hopefully by then the fixed versions will be up for sale and you will have minimal downtime. thats what i am doing. 26 days to play left

My sister company actually does DELL repairs as well. Not sure if they allow you to work on systems for yourself though...
EDIT: Just received cancellation notice from DELL! I had to push to cancel and make them understand it was recalled, blah blah
Also, received my FedEx overnight tracking number. It *WILL* be here on Monday ! -
I have a m11x R2 right now that I've been playing on, waiting for a Phone call from Dell on Monday about the update. If they don't have a replacement unit for me I will open it up and play with it for a week then return it.

Jx - Check PM

There is no reason to slam someone for their purchase choices. Don't do it again. Neptune, since you have made your purchase choice, congrats. Keep an eye on the main sticky concerning Dell's response to the SB issue. Be sure to transfer that warranty/ownership ASAP.
Closing thread. PM me if you have questions.
Cancelled R3 order and ordered R2 with killer specs!
