Did you install the chipset driver yet? You have to install it first before the management engine.

Make sure you are using Windows 8.1 driver and not Windows 8 driver. Which Alienware do you have?

Do you see the RAID config screen before the bios fires up? Check the disk drivers they should say Intel RAID. The IRST software will install the correct drivers if they are not correct so it sounds like RAID is disabled?

Yes, you cannot use any intel features. I have no idea why people change this, even if you don't want raid you might want caching in the future. Once you install windows in AHCI there is no going back. It's not as if it makes windows load any faster by installing to a cache drive. Only in benchmarks can you see the miliseconds difference, A CWOT IMO!

For win 8 you want UEFI with RAID. Install to the HDD and use IRST to set the msata as a cache drive once windows is installed. You should not need legacy with win 8 but I don't believe it makes any difference (unless you have a 120hz display where it may be required).

I tested this against an install to the msata SSD in AHCI and it was around 2 seconds slower to load windows. Could not tell the difference when using windows.

In UEFI you will not see a boot option in the bios, windows will set it up. Do not format or partition the msata drive during the install. Leave it alone so that IRST can use it for the cache. EDIT: Since you have already used the msata delete any existing partitions and leave it unused.

You can set the cache up first using the hot key that comes up (Ctrl-I I believe?) before the bios starts but as long as you do not format it it can be done after install.

    Good luck ;).
