I have recently picked up an alienware 17 and the first thing i do is always repaste , anyway on my 18 removing the cards is no issue , after removing the heatsink there are just 2 screws holding the card in position , my problem is on this 17 i have removed the H/S and the screws but the card will not come out , am i missing something ?

It's probably stuck with the large pad that is under the card. Just prize it at the opposite end to the connector and it should pop up around 15 degrees where you can pull it out. Only use a plastic lever. I usually remove it as a whole unit (only remove the two card retaining screws) as the heatsink gives some leverage ;).

    Good luck.

Same to me, the easiest way to remove it is using a toothpick in the corner of one of the both screws of the gpu: in that zone there arent resistors or anything to broke the gpu. Push a little to your side and the gpu will pull out alone ;)

I get it from upgrademonkey ebay. He ship it with x bracket clevo but if you have the 4 screws, its compatible otherwize ask him a xbracket for alienware.
I mod my heatsink from alienware r3 3 pipes. you have gtx880m so your heatsink is 100w, its enaugh. Pad layout are the same, make sure all mem are pads like your gtx880m or you can buy some from ebay too, very affordable. I make a full tuto upgrade for alienware 17. Video is on the thread: alienware 17 gt980m upgrade ;)

Funnily I had the same issue when I went to repaste my 880M, it was stuck and wouldn't let out but using a toothpick I managed to take it out.

Yeah Klk450 , not used to these 8gb cards , and i am a a bit heavy handed so the chances of snapping something was definitely on the agenda ...anyway will whip it out tomoz and check all the thermal pads ...just to be sure ... :)
