I recently posted the same question in one of the older thread but it seems I wasnt really getting the help that I needed so decided to just post a thread.

I have a m17x-r3 and my gpu is 460m and just recently found out there is a new vbios update at the dell site.

Ive followed the installation instruction which asked me to burn the file to a disc and boot it up by pressing f12 after restarting. Then it shows up saying " Loading DRMK Version 8.00... Can't load kernel file".

Ive tried burning the disc at 4x speed, redownloading the same file, and burned it to 3 different Discs. I assumed there was something wrong with my CD drive so I restarted my laptop and see if it boots my recovery CD which
    it did without any problem.

    Any suggestion?

Is there a good reason you want to update?

Generally the rule with vBioses is if it ain't broke don't eff with it.

I wasn't able to boot up the video bios update cd if my bios is set to Raid, I had to reset it to AHCI and it boots up for me, give that a try

Well, if you have the correct .ROM file which is needed for the card, then you probably could find another flash-software to do the flashing. Also, if i were you, I'd try to flash with an USB-stick (memory-stick, etc.) instead of an DVD / optical disc.

Try with an USB-device and tell me if it works out.

Just extract the contents or mount the ISO they give you and get the rom.

Then use NVFlash to flash it, you can use Widezu's 580m throttle removal guide, but just flash your .rom rather than the ones he provides. Also, be sure to backup like it says in his guide, in-case something goes wrong, but really NVFlash is very safe.

I approve what YodaGoneMad said, NVflash worked as an charm for me aswell from an USB-drive!

Oh wow! thanks guys. Ill definitely try this method out. One problem I do have is, hahah I have no idea how to get the ROM file from the ISO file. I extracted/mounted the file, looked through the directory, and could not find any .ROM file:/

    Am i doing something wrong?

not sure what issues your having with the ROM file, but the BSOD's and such might be able to be fixed by making sure you have windows 7 Sp1 installed. When i do a clean install i always get some BSOD's for some reason before getting sp1 installed. then the issues magically disappear. ;)

ahh yeah I read somewhere that if i wanted to fix the BSOD problem, I just needed to update my windows which seems to solved my BSOD problem!
    Still having throttling problem though.

what are your temps? my 460m doesn't even get close to 65C under full load anymore. It should throttle at 78C due to something nobody has been able to turn off.

honestly idk, but as if right now, I just really want to just update my bios since dell made it sound like its urgent. Whether or not it fixes the problem, i still just want to update it.

again, like the previous question, can anyone show me how to extract a .rom file from the 460m vbios iso file. I try mounting and extract like YodaGoneMad instructed but still cant really figure out how to get the .rom file. I would be much appreciated if youre able to provide a download link too.

This bios prob won't help you out at all and its not urgent lol, but here is the download link: nVidia GeForce GTX 460M Bios

write click the file and use the windows image burner to burn it to a CD. Then just pop the CD in the driver and boot off of it and run the bios flash. Don't interrupt the flash or you risk bricking the card. Hope this helps you out. :)

I appreciate your help, but if you actually read the thread, youd know that the whole point of this thread is me not able to boot up the burn cd with the vbios update iso. And honestly, It was just one of those file that was marked as urgent in the dell drivers section recommending you to update it.

Others already suggested me to use nvflash or w/e with the 460m .rom file which i cant find in the iso. So again, how do I get the gtx 460m vbios rom file. I try extracting the iso and mount it, but still cant find any rom file in it.

@FrostByte18 -- Although it has to be there, I can't figure out how to extract the vbios .rom file from either the downloaded file or the burned CD. Probably the best bet would be to get a forum user with a 460M to make a copy of the vbios after it has been flashed using the nvflash backup option (nvflash --save "filename.rom")(the preferable option) or the copy feature of GPU-Z and then flash the copy.
