    I have M17xR2 with 4780 in crossfire .
I have tried to upgrade to the latest 11.6 but it never seems to update the driver , in device manager and ccc it always says the driver version is the Dell stock driver 8.763-100810a-104118C-Dell .
I get the new Control Center but the driver never updates .

This is what it says in ccc with the Dell drivers
    Driver Packaging Version 8.763-100810a-104118C-Dell
    Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
    2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1059
    2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000
    Direct3D Version 8.14.10.0775
    OpenGL Version 6.14.10.10151
    Catalyst™ Control Center Version 2010.0810.2122.36491

Ive tried the recommended install on another thread using driver sweeper etc but it never seems to update to a newer driver .
What am i doing wrong or should i just stick to Dells driver

    Thanks for any advice .

from what i've heard, 11.6 really helps out CF, so if i were you i'd try as hard as i could to get 11.6 to work.

however in my situation i had some stutter issues with 11.6 so i'm gunna re-try the stock drivers.

what link did you use to install 11.6?

did you do it through the software suite or the individual downloads?
for me, software suite didnt even work, it said that it wasnt compatible. individual download worked, but there's also another link floating around. i'll see if i can find it

    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/11-6_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe
try that, it doesnt include CAP1, so you'll need to download that seperately, but the above includes everything and got me from stock dell to 11.6

Did you chance the "Workaround" boolean from false to true in the configuration file for the driver installer?

disregard what i said about 11.6 stuttering for me. not sure what went right this time around, but after a fresh clean install, stutter issues are gone in SC2 with 11.6+CAP1 and my single 6870M.

and what is this workaround boolean? i require more info :p

I have a strange quirk in Crysis 2 since upgrading from 11.4 (which was perfect) to 11.6.
Objects like ammo and weapons pick-ups sometimes do not display- and it appears to be totally random throughout the game. If you know where the objects are, you can still pick them up, but you are flying blind so to speak. Hopefully they can squeeze even more performance out of the game in the next driver update- and fix the bugs!!

I uninstall the driver through the control panel, which will ask if you want to 'express uninstall all ATI bla bla bla'. Then install Driver Sweeper, boot into safe mode (F8 during boot), and get rid of all the left over ATI display driver crap. Run the 11.6 executable, and it should all be good to go. Use GPU-Z to verify driver version after that.

Do you install the Dell driver at all or are you stuck without any drivers installed? I have the issue of 11.6 not updating over the Dell driver, and not working at all without it.

I had the same problem couldn't update to 11.6, but I just solved it. What I did was this
    1)Downloaded and extracted 11.6
    2)Express uninstalled via control panel.
3)restarted used driver sweeper in safe mode
    4) resarted into normal windows and disabled WIFI
    5) installed through the device manager pointing it to C:\ATI\10.6....

then I installed CCC and everything else by actually running the installer in windows.

What about the Intel GPU? How'd you deal with that? The only thing I've read is that the Dell drivers need to be installed first because of specific stuff..

We have different systems, but I am sure it would be the same thing just try going from the stock dell drivers and go by the steps I posted above. No Intel GPU for me. :(

Well you are lucky, 11.6 won't even install for me. I can get everything but but the ATI Display Driver to install. It won't even show up on the pack that I download. The software suite says it won't work with my hardware and the full download doesn't have the display driver.

Not sure what I am doing wrong as I am no novice to building/installing/updating/cleaning computers. Just the way Dell set this up is so strange..

Also, the Intel 3000 updates with the Dell driver, but not with Intel/Windows drivers. *sigh*

try this method install through the device manager not using the actual install program
Even with the i5 540 you do not have switchable graphics through stealth mode.

I really hate AMD for driver installs, such an easy thing to do and it screws up every time. The individual does not work for me. Even when the previous driver is uninstalled it goes right back and installs/displays the previous version again. How the hell this happens when the driver package is the next revision is beyond me. That and all files have been cleaned. Both device manager and CC shows previous version.

To get the driver to installed properly, I have to download the Mobility Suite and start the download from there. This downloads the "right" drivers and apps. You don't even need to uninstall if you don't want to. Unlike the individual driver downloads that screws up this hasn't screw up on me yet.

I think those that are having the same issues have to download this. The filename is also different. Individual downloads the "11-6 mobility vista win7 32 64 ccc" and the Mobility manager filename is "11-6 mobility vista win7 64 ccc OCL" No idea what OCL is and it doesn't have 32bit. It is roughly 7MB bigger possibly because of the Visual C++ package.

There are 3 ways to download the driver if you haven't noticed.

    1. AMD's download manager which is slow as fck, sorry but it is.
    2. Direct download from website
    3. Mobility package downloader

The last two should be your choice, never the first...in my case.
