I recently bought r4 with 7970m. How to i measure the temperature?
I have tried i8kfangui, speedfan, hwmonitor, riva tuner.

Cant get any temps on the 7970m gpu.
    Can read cpu.

    Thankful for any advice.

undereducated on this subject (as i am still waiting for mine to be delivered) but have you tried running the program as an administrator in windows?

Sometimes that helps fix goofy problems.

You may have to enable it for the 7970. You can go to the overclocking section of my 7970m install guide (in sig) and follow the instructions in section 10.

My afterburner tells me my min and max temps on the 7970m and it also charts the temps as i'm using the vid card during benching and gaming

For me, afterburner only works if I open it when the 7970m is in use. So start a game, then open afterburner. Otherwise, when I open it, everything is blank.

wanna see diffrences from using coolingpad, or just surfin windows to be playing heavy games.

Is it possible that you were running on integrated graphics? And opening the game switched to the 7970m?

Yes that is most likely. But hwmonitor doesnt show 7970m just intel 4000.
And i wanna know the temps.

See pic. Gotta sleep now, will experiment more tomorrow.

While plugged in to the wall you should do that Fn+F7 (I hope i got that correct) to switch to the 7970m only. Maybe give that a try and see if you have any better luck.

I tried that, then it just telling me the drivers not working or card. As its using intel 4000 only.

I call dell support on monday and ask how i should solve it.
Wanna be able to read temp on this machine, my first alienware so wanna be sure its not crazy hot inside all the time. Have 2 diffrent laptop coolers, wanna know which one works the best.

Hopefully i dont have to repaste 1st year atleast.

You can read the GPU and CPU temps with Open hardware monitor. It's small and also has a nice gadget beside the tray option.

Sounds like that's the problem then; You must be switched to the 7970 to get a reading. Try updating the ATI drivers through the Alienware website then switch using FN+F7; after that you should get a reading. I'm using hwmonitor 1.19 and all seems to be working fine (reading 72 max after an hour or two of game play).

I had the same problem. I did FN+F7 to switch to full dedicated graphics. Although when I first used the dedicated graphics I had to restart after windows installed drivers to work successfully.

I downloaded CPUID HWMonitor and it detects temps on the 7970m

Yes, got it working now. Thanks, used FNF7.
But got it working without switching to only 7970m FNF7 aswell, MSI Afterburner while playing getting temps and % used of gpu on top corner while playing.
